Suitability analysis is essential in planning for developmental projects especially within a built up area; hence identification of potential sites for such projects is critical in urban development. This study demonstrates the application of geographic information system (GIS) based multi-criteria analysis to identify potential sites for recreational parks in Yola-North local government, Nigeria. Five datasets were used for the purpose of this study; Street data, elevation data (digital elevation model), land use/cover, population and open spaces data, generated from Yola geo database using Arc GIS 10.2. A suitability model was developed to identify suitable sites considering three criteria; these are slope of not less than 60%, population density and availability of parcels. Suitable sites were determined by overlay operations using the weighted overlay tools. This study concluded that with suitability analysis using spatial analyst e...

The study area was divided into three high, medium and low densities in terms of development. This was largely based on the data gathered through administration of questionnaire using systematic sampling methods. 270 copies of questionnaire were administered to household heads in the three areas selected, where high density area has 98; medium density area has 90 while low density area has 82 respectively. It was deduced that all the major types of municipal solid waste are generated in all the areas, and majority of household heads in the three areas use either plastic or metal buckets to collect and disposed their waste and also that the socioeconomic characteristics varied in all the three areas at 5% probability level as 0.842<2.78<4.60. Furthermore, at 5% level of significance where 9.21>5.99, this shows that solid waste is more of a problem in the high density area than in the medium and low density areas.

This study focuses on assessment of water supply and distribution system in Jimeta Yola Nigeria, with the aim of providing strategies for improvement. The study examined the supply as well as the distribution coverage in the area. Four different datasets were used in the study area namely; street, existing pipeline network, population and land use data. The area covered by the network was delineated by digitizing the existing pipeline network on the street map using ArcGIS 10.1. Proximity analysis was used to determine the network coverage within the inhabited areas; problems associated with water supply and distribution in the study and the consumers’ perception of the services provided were examined using questionnaires. Recommendations were made to ensure effective operation and maintenance of water supply and distribution system in oth...

This paper focuses on the assessment of facilities and services as relates to tourists attraction in Gashaka-Gumti National park. One of the objectives of the paper is to provide modern recreational facilities and services and improve the existing ones with a view to attracting more tourists to the National Park. One thousand Questionnaires were administered to the residents of the national park communities and Seven hundred and twenty were returned, One hundred and fifty were administered to the tourists visiting the park and hundred and thirty eight were returned. Also two hundred and fifty Questionnaires were administered to the staff of the National Park only one hundred and fifty were returned. The questionnaires were administered to assess the availability and condition of facilities and services in the national park. Analysis was done using frequency and percentage to examine the condition of the facilities and services in the national park. The findings of the research revealed that condition of facilities and services is good and conducive to attract more tourists to the national park. Also recommendations were made with a view improving the existing facilities and services and provide more for the benefit and enjoyment of the tourists, park communities and members of staff of the national park. Some of the recommendations include: construction of more accommodation at the tourist camps, construction and expansion of more roads within the park, improving the restaurants and catering services of the park, providing modern sporting and recreational facilities among others.

It aimed at establishing the relationship that exists between rainfall, temperature and yam yield. Two sets of data were collected from agricultural development project of federal capital territory on climatic elements (rainfall and temperature) and yam yield for ten (10) years. The Pearson product-moment correlation techniques were used to determine the relationship between rainfall and yam yield and between temperature and yam yield which were 0.10 and 0.07 respectively. The result showed a positive relationship for both. Using the simple step-wise regression analysis for rainfall and yam yield, applying the same techniques on temperature and yam yield the following questions were derived: rainfall and yam yield __ y = 12.46466-0.002x. Temperature and yam yield __ y = 6.936-0.24x. With the use of multiple regressions we obtained 0.14 between rainfall, temperature and yam yield is yield. We also discovered that 14% of the proportion variation of yam yield is explained by rain and temperature. The positive relationship obtained between yam and temperature, between yam rainfalls is in agreement with work done previously by other authors. While that of temperature, rainfall and yam is also positive relationship which also agrees with literatures. We recommend that: a more reliable data should be collected and tried again especially on rainfall. Yam yield should be regressed on other environmental factors. Data on temperature, rainfall, compared to eradicate errors. A longer period of data could be collected for better analysis. However, with respect to our present study we concluded that rainfall and temperature has an influence on yam production.

It is aimed at analyzing water distribution system in Yola with a view to Optimize distribution. The study covered the three hierarchies of water distribution namely; Trunk Main, Principal Feeder Mains and Small Mains. Five different datasets used for the study includes; Street data, existing pipeline network, Land use, Topographic and Population data. Network dataset was created with components of the network as feature datasets. The existing water distribution network was digitized on the street map, digital elevation model (DEM) was also generated using ArcGIS 10.1 to visualize the Topography of the study area. Suitable locations for reservoirs were determined by the DEM for smooth flow under gravity. Best route for Trunk mains that will serve the reservoirs were found by route analysis using the network dataset earlier created. Service (catchment) areas to be covered by each reservoir were also determined within each ward to ensure total coverage. A Model was developed for effective water distribution. This study concluded that route analysis using network analyst extension as well as suitable location analysis using DEM provides an optimal water distribution system.
