Beverly Public Library Land Acknowledgement Statement
As part of our mission as a center of culture and civil engagement, the Beverly Public Library would like to acknowledge that the land on which the library sits is the traditional homeland of the Naumkeag (NAH-um-kee-ahg) people who were part of the Massachusetts Alliance and whose descendants continue to live in this area to the present day.
We must both acknowledge Indigenous peoples’ long history of stewardship of this territory and the painful history of forced removal, and colonization. As we work toward diversity, equity, and inclusion, we must include Indigenous people and their perspectives in our collections, programs, and community.
