Accreditation
assesses the capacity of an institution and its programs to assure quality and to produce evidence that it does so. As an accredited institution, Edison State Community College is expected to have the standards, processes, and the will for quality assurance in depth and throughout our educational offerings and programs that includes a focus on student learning, education, continuous improvement, evidence-based institutional learning, integrity, ethical behavior, institutional sustainability, mission-centeredness and accreditation through peer review. Holding accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission is a privilege that we proudly maintain.
Edison State Community College holds the following accreditations.
Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
Edison State Community College

State Authorization
Edison State Community College has been approved by the State of Ohio to participate in the
National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)
. NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary education.
The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) establishes a state-level reciprocity process that will support the nation in its efforts to increase the educational attainment of its people by making state authorization
more efficient, effective, and uniform in regard to necessary and reasonable standards of practice that could span states;
more effective in dealing with quality and integrity issues that have arisen in some online/ distance education offerings; and
less costly for states and institutions and, thereby, the students they serve.
Some of Edison State's degree and certificate programs may lead to professional licensure and/or certification upon successful completion of the program requirements. Licensure or certification may be global, national or state-specific. Ohio licensing requirements may not apply in other states. SARA does not provide reciprocity for state professional licensing requirements. Out-of-state students interested in a professional licensure program at Edison State should first contact their program's home state licensing agency or the professional association (
see Licensure Programs information
). Edison State Program Contacts will work one-on-one with students, upon student request, to determine if the program meets the educational requirements in other states or US territories. Academic programs and individual graduates must meet standards set by that state's licensure requirements for a graduate to be eligible for a license. Location Policy
Federal and state regulations require institutions of higher education to make a determination regarding the State in which a student is located, which must be applied consistently to all students.
Establishing Student Location
Edison State Community College recognizes the student address on file in the student information system as the physical “student location.” Student location is recorded in the student information system at the time of enrollment. “Time of Enrollment” is defined as the point at which students have been admitted to a program or major but have not yet registered for courses in that program or major.
Change in Student Location
The student location established at the time of enrollment will remain effective unless and until the student provides notification to the College. Official address change notification is defined as completing the address change form or update within the student information system. Once the student notifies the College, the date of entry will be used as the effective date of a student’s revised location for the purposes of this policy. If a student does not notify the College of a change of address and their permanent address has been end-dated in the student record system because mail was returned as undeliverable, their location will be considered the state of Ohio.
Responsibility of Students
Students should review the specific academic requirements for the program in which they are enrolling, including those related to practicum/internship as well as pre-qualifications for licensure such as the need for a criminal background check. We highly recommend that students contact the applicable licensure board(s) in their state of residence or in the state where they intend to obtain a license before beginning an academic program that results in licensure and prior to beginning any internship/practicum. Many licensure boards require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license. Please be advised that state laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time. Changes in requirements can impact the program's ability to meet educational requirements for licensure. It is the responsibility of the student completing the licensure program to check with the licensing board(s) in their state of residence or in the state in which they intend to obtain a license for the most recent information and requirements.
