Kay Bailey Hutchison Institute
Welcome to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Institute, a dynamic hub dedicated to advancing cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, workforce development and community engagement. At KBHI, we synchronize efforts across these areas—bringing together academic excellence, cutting-edge innovation and strategic partnerships to shape the future of technology and education.
Named for retired U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, the institute’s key objective is to develop a community-focused Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence that is a regional hub serving all of Texas.
Four Pillars of Impact
Education and Workforce Readiness
We are dedicated to cultivating a skilled and adaptable workforce prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. The KBHI partners with academic efforts in security studies and criminal justice, computer science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other departments across campus, with a strong emphasis on how AI can enhance and integrate across all disciplines. This future-focused approach ensures students are equipped to lead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Innovation
Innovation is at the heart of our mission. We foster groundbreaking research and development in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity through our AI and Cyber Centers of Excellence, AI Applications Lab, and Innovation and Research Hub. From incubation programs to entrepreneurship support, we empower creators and thinkers to turn ideas into impactful solutions across industries.
Operations
The KBHI’s operational backbone ensures the seamless delivery of its programs and services. Led by the Regional Security Operations Center, our infrastructure also includes robust IT systems and strategically located alternative sites.
Outreach, Partnerships and Engagement
Through programs like the Cyber Patriot and K–12 outreach, we support learners from early education to professional development. Our partnerships with national centers and the Center for Core Values foster leadership and civic engagement, while initiatives like the Small Business Development Center and community education expand our reach to small businesses and lifelong learners.
