More than seven million Bay Area residents live in one of the most beautiful places in the country. MTC’s work helps more people get outside to enjoy the region’s natural resources.

The Bay Area is home to mountains, seaside, redwood forests, beautiful countryside and so much more. Our diverse and beautiful open spaces are part of the reason we live here and why so many millions visit every year.
MTC supports the development of regional trails and parks so that residents and visitors can explore the distinctive and vibrant coastline of the San Francisco Bay.
San Francisco Bay Trail
A planned 500-mile walking and cycling path around the entire San Francisco Bay, with 350+ miles already complete.
San Francisco Bay Water Trail
A growing network of designated launching and landing sites for non-motorized boats around San Francisco Bay.
Judge John Sutter Regional Shoreline / Gateway Park
A “Gateway to the Bay” that connects the East Bay to Treasure Island via the bicycle/pedestrian path on the Bay Bridge, with safe, multimodal public access to the shoreline.
