Endowments & Planned Giving
Building a strong future.
Financial stability is essential to the future of Eastside Catholic School. This means practicing careful stewardship of our annual resources while also growing strong endowment funds that will sustain us for generations to come.
An endowment is an invested gift in which the principal remains intact. The income generated from these investments provides ongoing support for the school’s operations. A healthy endowment allows Eastside Catholic to plan confidently, innovate boldly, and ensure that our mission continues well into the future.
Increasing our endowment is one of our top priorities as we work to strengthen the long-term economic vitality of Eastside Catholic School.
Endowments
Endowed Scholarship funds can be established with a gift of $25,000 or more and proceeds will be distributed when the fund reaches $50,000. Endowment gifts are invested, keeping the principal intact and distributing a portion of the return on investment to provide scholarships and tuition assistance to benefit deserving Eastside Catholic students. Donors may continue to contribute to an endowed scholarship increasing the impact of the scholarship on the Eastside Catholic student body. Eastside Catholic named endowments are listed below.
Planned Giving
By including EC in your will, trust or other estate plans, you are leaving a legacy. Planned gifts can take shape in a variety of forms such as IRA charitable rollovers, real estate, life insurance, retirement planned assets and bequests.

Established in 1993 by the Deviny Family in memory of their son Patrick who loved math and science.
This scholarship benefits two current junior or senior students each year who demonstrate excellence in math and science and with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Interested students must submit an application.
Established in 1997 by the Dorratcague Family.
This endowment benefits a student currently enrolled in the Options Program. Interested students must submit an application.
Peter Dorratcague was a graduate of the Eastside Catholic High School Options Program, Class of 1989 who died in 1996. While battling cancer, Peter asked his family to establish a scholarship to enable other students to have the same wonderful school experiences that he did. He wanted the scholarship recipient to love Eastside Catholic and their fellow students and be involved in student life.
The scholarship is only available to a student in the Options Program. Interested students must submit an application.
Established in 2000 by Roberta M. Farmer.
This scholarship benefits a current Catholic female student. Interested students must submit an application annually.
By establishing this scholarship fund, Roberta Farmer wanted to help a female high school student “reach her potential.” Mrs. Farmer did not have children of her own, but believed strongly in Catholic education and the impact it could have on students. At Mrs. Farmer’s suggestion, the recipients of this scholarship are asked to contribute to the scholarship fund in their adult years, thus making the opportunity available for deserving students in the future. In addition to establishing this scholarship, Mrs. Farmer’s multi-million-dollar bequest enabled Eastside Catholic to buy the land for the school’s permanent home in Sammamish.
Established in 2009 by the Lovsted Family.
This endowment benefits a current student from Bellevue or Mercer Island who demonstrates financial need.
Established in 2014 by Roger and Sheron O'Connell.
Roger and Sheron O’Connell established this endowment to support and encourage EC students who demonstrate the positive attributes of being a Crusader including leadership, academic abilities and interests outside of the classroom. Interested applicants can apply in February.
Established in 2017 by several families of alumni.
This endowment provides ongoing financial support for Eastside Catholic School Learning Support Services, Academic Resources and Options Program.
Established in 2012 by the Rossi Family.
This endowment is awarded to a current freshman or sophomore student who has a strong faith belief and is a practicing Catholic. The scholarship was established to honor, recognize and encourage Eastside Catholic students to see the good in all and have the desire to bring out the best in people. Interested students can apply in February.
Established in 2022 by the Smith Family.
This endowment focuses on Eastside Catholic's three Touchstones of Academic Excellence, Relationships and Servant Leadership with an emphasis on the environment. Deserving current students will demonstrate in their application essay how following the Touchstones makes a positive impact on the environment.
Established in 2017 by the Traynor Family.
This memorial endowment fund was established to honor ECHS alumnae Wendi Marie Anderson Traynor, who, at age 25, fell victim to a terrible act of domestic violence.
This endowment will be awarded to a female student entering her senior year at Eastside Catholic High School whose goal upon graduation is to attend college and focus on the study of law or pediatric medicine. Recipients of this endowment are asked to consider contributing to this memorial endowment fund during their adult years, thus keeping the endowment alive for future students as an ongoing reminder of the destructive consequences of domestic violence.
Current students can apply in February.
Established in 2017 by the Vicik Family in memory of their son Wil who loved his EC experience.
Wil’s family established the Wil Vicik STEM Endowment to support and enhance the STEM education initiatives and teacher training at Eastside Catholic in Wil’s name. This honors Wil by awarding a scholarship to one female and one male in the junior class who excel in science. Qualifications include strong science course-load and interest in pursuing a career in the sciences.
Interested students can apply in February.
