Yes. Sayre is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). We also hold the following memberships: NAIS, CRIS, SSATB, KAIS, NAPSG, CASE, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Lexington Corporation.
We have a Board of Trustees composed of local business people, community members, current and past parents, and school alumni. The trustees set the strategic direction of the school, provide financial oversight, approve policies, and select and supervise the Head of School.
No. Although the school was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church long ago, Sayre is no longer connected with any faith tradition. We welcome students of all beliefs.
Classes at all grade levels take local field trips. We also have overnight class trips, along with global study opportunities in upper grades. Students may also participate in service-learning activities. Seniors complete internships before commencement. Upper School students may also engage in research at local universities.
The Lower School holds performances in the multipurpose room, LSLC. The Middle School and Upper School partner with arts centers and other venues to stage plays, musicals, performances, and art shows. Artwork is displayed throughout the buildings.
The Sayre Athletic Complex is located 15 minutes from our downtown campus on Canebrake Drive. It features fields, courts, an indoor training facility, concessions, and locker room.
The Sayre Campus Farm is a series of raised garden beds around the downtown campus where younger grades grow vegetables and flowers. The Sayre Athletic Complex also has a 10-acre space for hands-on study of biology, agriculture, and the environment.
We serve lunch for all grades. The Buttery provides a wide variety of options that follow the school’s Allergy Policy and Guidelines (available in the online handbook). We use fresh local meats and produce as much as possible, and the daily menu includes a featured entrée, pasta, sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan options, gluten-free items, homemade soups, and a salad bar.
Lunch is included in tuition fees for all grades. Upper School students may also purchase breakfast items, drinks, and other snacks. The Buttery accepts credit and debit cards as well as cash.
Yes. The Buttery has gluten-free and vegan options. The facility is completely free from any peanuts, tree nuts, or products that could be made in a facility containing any traces of nuts.
