Fall Commencement
Dear Bulldogs,
At Wingate University, Commencement is more than a ceremony — it’s a celebration of perseverance, purpose, and the incredible community that surrounds every graduate.
For several years, Wingate hosted Commencement ceremonies in both December and May. The December ceremony was originally created to provide additional opportunities for students in select health sciences and education programs to walk at graduation.
After thoughtful review and conversations with faculty and staff representatives, the University has decided to return to only hosting Commencement ceremonies in May – one for graduates on Friday and one for undergraduates on Saturday. This decision is rooted in enhancing the experience for our students and their families.
Here’s what this exciting shift means for you:
An even bigger, more vibrant celebration with the chance to congratulate all of our Bulldogs together in one powerful moment.
An enhanced experience with a larger faculty gauntlet, and elevated ceremony elements worthy of your achievement.
Full undergraduate award eligibility that ensures every graduating senior is recognized in one unified celebration.
A return to the tradition of celebrating your achievements with the classmates who entered Wingate with you.
Students completing degree requirements in December will still have their degrees officially conferred at the end of the fall term and will be fully recognized as Wingate graduates. December graduates will be invited — and encouraged — to return in May to participate in Commencement alongside their classmates.
By bringing our community together in May, we ensure a consistent, high-energy, deeply meaningful experience for every graduate — one that reflects the pride, spirit, and strength of the Bulldog family.
