After months of preparation, Bellarmine’s two FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams delivered a breakthrough performance at the State Championship, earning spots at the FIRST World Championships in Houston for the first time in program history.
Following six months of iterative design and testing, both teams—The Cheesy Chips and The Cheesy Bytes—faced a narrow window of competition, with just minutes of match time to secure their season’s future. Early rounds proved unpredictable. Despite setting world-record scores earlier in the season—and again during the competition—both teams initially found themselves outside the top rankings and awaiting selection for the elimination rounds.
In a packed arena, both teams were ultimately selected by the tournament’s top-seeded alliance, setting the stage for a high-stakes finish.
The Cheesy Bytes went on to win their division, while The Cheesy Chips finished as finalists. The results marked a milestone achievement for Bellarmine’s three-year FTC program, with both teams qualifying for the world stage.
The accomplishment reflects months of dedication, resilience, and teamwork, as well as the continued growth of Bellarmine’s robotics program.
