Frequently Asked Questions
common
What problems or topics do you usually receive psychological counseling for?
All difficulties in life that our school members may experience in their daily lives, such as interpersonal relationships, personality issues, adjustment problems, academic difficulties, and family issues, can be topics of counseling. In particular, it can be helpful for students who are struggling with depression, lethargy, anxiety, loneliness, or difficulties in interpersonal relationships, as well as those who find it difficult to maintain their daily lives due to a loss of motivation, frequent tardiness, and absenteeism compared to the past.
Eligibility
Can anyone receive counseling?
All UNIST members are eligible to apply. Applications are limited to individuals assigned a student ID or faculty ID, such as Students, Researcher, and Faculty & Staff ; students on leave of absence are also eligible. Graduates who are currently pursuing studies or Research within the institute may use the service within one year of graduation, while non-members (including family members) may use the service once in emergency situations (single-session counseling, information provision, etc.).
Confidentiality
Can the Content of the psychological counseling be shared with others?
The client is kept confidential of everything from the fact that they are receiving psychological counseling to the Content thereof, and it will not be disclosed to others without their consent.
However, in accordance with Article 15 of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Code of Ethics (Code of Ethics of the Korean Counseling Psychology Association and the Korean Counseling Association), the cases where the principle of confidentiality is restricted are as follows.
If the safety of the client, others, or society is threatened (self-harm, running away from home, suicide threats, death threats, etc.), relevant professionals or agencies may be notified without consent.
If there is definitive information that a client has a contagious and fatal disease, this information may be disclosed to third parties within a relationship who are exposed to the disease at a dangerous level. However, prior to disclosure, it will be verified whether the person has already been informed of the disease or if they intend to disclose it themselves.
In cases where counseling information is legally required (such as in cases involving criminal facts), the counselor first coordinates with the court to ensure the client's rights and interests are not infringed; if disclosure is necessary, the counselor informs the client of the disclosure beforehand and discloses only the minimum necessary information.
When a team of multiple professionals intervenes (such as when the prescribing physician and the counselor discuss intervention methods together), the counselor informs the client of the collaboration with other professionals and discusses counseling information necessary to protect the client's rights and interests with them.
