Programme Information
Electrotechnics for secondary school leavers is a 2-year+ (28 months) Technical Skills Training Programme (TSTP) to develop technical professionals for power and engineering services sector. They are capable of maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing systems in a techncial environment.
They can also be easily moulded to fit into any industrial setup.
“Although electrotechnics is similar to electromechanics, the slight difference lies in its specialisation. While electromechanics seems to focus on the interplay of electricity and mechanical systems, electrotechnics, on the other hand, focuses on electricity and its various applications especially in terms of power generation, transmission and its distribution. Both electromechanics and electrotechnics are similar in nature, but their focus areas are different”.
Though the course is heavy in Electrical, Electronics, Power, and Automation trade components, it also has Mechanical, Engineering Design, Engineering Fundamentals, and Programming components. A core component of this programme is the Work Ethic and Values core. Students are helped through this core to understand the implication of every decision they make.
Graduates of this course are multi-skilled, flexible service technicians capable of working in several engineering environment. Their services are in high demand.

Programme Structure
During the In-School Phase of their programme, students spend 18 months in school. They are expected to be in school from Mondays to Fridays (except for public holidays & other school holidays) from 9am to 5.00pm (sometimes they may be expected to be in school till 6:00pm due to the nature of the course/module). A short break (30mins) is held at 11:00am and a longer break (1 hr) is held at 1.30pm. Students attend theory and practical classes following a monthly time-table.
This programme is delivered in 5 phases:
The Basic Learning Phase
The Intermediate Learning Phase 1
The Intermediate Learning Phase 2
The Advance Learning Phase 1
The Advance Learning Phase 2 (In-Company/Internship Phase)
Each learning phase has about 14 to 19 weeks (additional weeks may be added when necessary). The in-company/internship phase has a minimum of about 40 weeks. Students are required to undertake a final assessment/project at the end of the in-company phase.
Students may be required to take external examinations before the completion of their training. Students who have finished the second phase of their training can begin the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Certification registration process through our learning partner(s).
Students may decide, if they wish, to undergo an online Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering field from International University of Applied Sciences (IUBH) Germany along with their IIT programme or after IIT programme i.e., when they start working. See IUBH website for available programmes.
The In-Company/Internship Phase
Students spend 10 Months in a selected partner company for the in-plant training phase following the Dual Training System (DTS) of vocational training. During this period, the student works in the company for four days following a pre-planned training plan and comes to school for one day (weekdays only). Companies are encouraged to pay the student a stipend for transportation and feeding. The student following the company rules and regulations during the internship phase. The student must keep a logbook of their activities which is reviewed by delegated staff and forms an essential component of the final assessment of the student.
Certification
IIT awards to succuesful students who have completed the full programme (28 months) its certification in the field of
ELECTROTECHNICS TECHNOLOGY
. This is a professional qualification for employment purposes. However, outside Nigeria, it may be used for academic/performance purposes.
National Diploma and other certifications may be awarded by partner institutions. TAC applies.
Students or IIT graduates who successfully complete the degree programme with IUBH will be awarded a Bachelor’s in Engineering (B.Eng) by IUBH.
Upon completion of this programme, participants can work within high level manufacturing industries or engineering services firms. They can also sit for the level 3 or level 4 examination of the applied Electrical or Mechanical Engineering programmes of the City & Guilds of London. They can also sit for the mechanical or electrical trade examinations conducted by the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB).
The examination fees are not covered within the Electrotechnics programme fees.

Industrial Fluid Power Systems (Pneumatics, & Electro-pneumatics)
Data Acquisition and Logic Controls
Programmable Logic Control and Industrial Processes
Computing, Programming and Statistics
Microcontrollers and Embedded Systems
Engineering Drawing, Computer Aided Drafting and Blue-Print reading
