March 2023 the Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu visited the Rabindra Bharati Museum, the ancestral house of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Jorasanko as part of her first two-day visit to Kolkata. She was greeted by the Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, Sri Bratya Basu (Minister of Higher Education), Dr. Shashi Panja (Minister of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare),Smt. Birbaha Hansda (Minister of Self-help Group and Self-employment and Forest & Consumer Affairs), Smt Nandini Chakraborty (Secretary, Dept of Tourism, West Bengal),Prof Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty (Vice-Chancellor)and other officials of the Rabindra Bharati University including Dr.Subir Maitra (Registrar), Prof.Nikhil Ranjan Pal (Dean, Faculty of Visual Arts) and Prof.Pushpita Mukherjee (Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts) among others.
The Hon’ble President went around Tagore House and offered floral homage to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at
Janma Kakshya,
the family maternity room where Tagore was born, and at
Prayan Kakshya
where he breathed his last. She also spent some time at the poet’s study room.
President Smt. Droupadi Murmu said she was deeply touched after visiting Jorasanko Thakurbari and expressed her experience in the VVIP visitor’s book with the comment—
“It is indeed a memorable experience for me to have visited the Jorasanko Thakurbari, the famous adobe of the illustratrious Tagore family of which Kobi Guru became a global icon. The visit has enlightened me about the multi-faceted contribution made by the stalwarts of the great family. Walking through the house which has been converted into a museum, I got a glimpse of how members of the Tagore family enriched India's traditions and helped it’s reawakening.
I appreciate the preservation and maintenance of this great national heritage, including the personal effects of the family, by Rabindra Bharati University.”
After the visit the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University presented her with a large photograph of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, four publications of Tagore and other memorabilia.
