History
1969 - 2000
The idea of creating a learning and training institution for UN personnel was first explored in
1969
. But it wasn’t until
1996
that the College began operating as a project entrusted to the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization. By
August 2000
, it was recommended that a full-fledged United Nations System Staff College be established with its own statutes.
2001-2002
In July 2001 the United Nations General Assembly approved the Statute for the creation of a new, independent learning organization within the United Nations. With support from the Italian Government, the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) opened its doors in Turin on 1 January 2002. It shares its campus with the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN’s Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).
2016
With support from the Federal Government of Germany, in January,
2016
the UNSSC opened its “Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development” in Bonn. The Centre was created to equip the UN and its partners with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
