FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELGIN, Ill. — February 9, 2026
— Judson University celebrated the dedication of the Scislowski Family Athletic Facility today with a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the Lindner Fitness Center on its Elgin campus.
University leadership, student-athletes, donors, alumni, community members, and elected officials gathered to mark the completion of the new facility. The football program at Judson was inspired by the philanthropic generosity of Chicago businessman Ted Scislowski. Funding for the new facility came from the State of Illinois through the
Independent Colleges Capital Program (ICCAP)
, which provides private, not-for-profit colleges and universities with funding for capital improvement projects.
State Representative Suzanne Ness
and
State Senator Don Dewitte’s
Chief of Staff Beck Gillam attended the ceremonies.
Throughout the ceremony, a shared theme of
rejoicing
emerged as speakers reflected on the significance of the moment and the collective effort behind the project. Judson University President Dr. Gene Crume led the formal dedication, highlighting both the facility’s impact and the community of partners who helped bring it to completion.
“We are deeply grateful to the Scislowski family for their generosity and investment in Judson athletics,” said Rick Williams. “The Scislowski Family Athletic Facility will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes and our programs, strengthening the future of athletics at Judson for generations to come.”
Many of Judson’s building partners were present for the celebration, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the project. The general contractor for the project was Rosemary Swierk, Founder and President of
Direct Steel and Construction
in Crystal Lake, Ill. As a token of appreciation and a symbol of Judson’s growing athletic tradition, each contractor was presented with a commemorative Judson football by a member of the Judson football team. The gesture honored their role in bringing the facility to life and marked a milestone for the university as Judson prepares to host home football games on campus beginning this fall.

Coach Shawn Flynn reflected on the significance of the new facility, emphasizing its impact beyond athletics. “This facility represents far more than a locker room—it represents belief,” Flynn said. “Belief in our student-athletes, belief in the future of Judson football, and belief in what can be accomplished when people invest in young men. We are committed to honoring that belief every day through our discipline, our character, and our pursuit of excellence.”
Speakers emphasized the Scislowski Family Athletic Facility as a significant milestone for Judson Athletics and campus life. The new spaces include modern locker rooms and athletic support areas designed to enhance training, competition, and community for student-athletes. With approximately 70% of Judson students participating in athletics, the facility plays an integral role in student development and campus engagement.
