His job was to make sure the technical equipment involved worked — and it did. The success of this surgery was only the beginning for Borovetz and the development of artificial organ technology at UPMC. Since then, Borovetz’s research has centered on the design and clinical utilization of cardiovascular organ replacements for both adult and pediatric patients.
