The Hooked Rug Museum is very proud to also present:
The Cheticamp Rug Hookers
2022 Group of Cheticamp Rug Hookers
February 3, 2023
Cheticamp Rug Hookers
Cheticamp rug hooking artisans are proud to be part of the Hooked Rug Museum of North America’s 2023 displays alongside the Canadian Artist and International Artist of the Year.
Did you know there are still fifty-two rug hookers in the Cheticamp / Saint-Joseph du Moine area here in Nova Scotia? Since 1927, these creative folks have perfected their craft with Ms. Lilian Burke, La Coopérative Artisanale de Cheticamp and more. Their detailed workmanship, designs and shading have made these rugs very popular. What started as a need to keep floors warm in the harsh winter months, turned into a cottage industry and has since become an art form. Cheticamp is now known as the World Rug Hooking Capital.
We certainly hope you will stop by the Museum to view all the creative art forms of rug hooking this year and learn more about the craft and those who have created these treasurers.
