Nutrition & Dietetics is a sub-discipline of medical sciences that involves the study of the promo on of health through healthy food, nutrition therapy, and food management. The undergraduate program at GNA University caters the students to learn the effect of food on human health and enables them to grasp the fundamentals of Diet therapy and its application in patients as a major focus of dietetics. The field has gained importance as people have become more conscious about the way they look, what they eat. Dietetics is the branch of knowledge concerned with diet and its effects on health, especially with the practical application of a scientific understanding of nutrition. Dietetics follows principles like maintenance of good nutritional status, formulation of the diet and nutrition education of the patient.

Dietitian is an expert in dietetics that focuses on human nutrition and regulation of diet. A dietitian alters the patient’s nutrition based upon their medical condition and individual needs. Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals licensed to assess, diagnose and treat nutritional problems. The roles and responsibilities of dietician is to plans, develop, control and evaluate the food service systems, assess the nutritional status of the clients. Dietician assesses, develops, implements and evaluates the nutritional care plans and provides for follow up including written reports, plans, organizes and conducts in service education programs. They can work in both normal and therapeutic nutrition.
Being a student of Nutrition and Dietetics, they can study nutrition science and education, food management, food service systems and equipment or how the body uses the food. School of Allied and Healthcare Sciences is offering 4 years honours bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. The curriculum of BND is framed as per the National Education Policy-2020. Our faculty is offering this skilled program to the students in which hands-on practice and clinical trainings in multispecialty hospitals and medical colleges of the region such as Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) etc. This helps the student for overall development and communication to face the industry, hospitals, and the real-life/practical situations. Aside from classroom teaching, we at GU arrange guest lectures of external expert professionals in specific areas, industrial/hospital visits, Research Projects, Clinical Visits, Internships, Workshops and Educational Trips for the overall development of students.
