ISOO is responsible to the President for policy and oversight of the Government-wide security classification system and the National Industrial Security Program. ISOO receives policy and program guidance from the National Security Council (NSC).

ISOO Notice 2026-01
- Provides guidance regarding agency handling of classified national security information (classified information) and controlled unclassified information (CUI) with the use of various AI systems and tools.
September 18, 2025
: ISOO published its
FY 2024 Annual Report to the President.
- This year’s report expands on ISOO’s core mission areas, and provides statistics and analysis related to the Classified National Security Information (CNSI) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) programs.
September 8, 2025:
ISOO Notice 2025-01
- Provides guidance on the proper use and incorporation of automatic declassification exemptions that have been approved by the Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel (ISCAP) into agency security classification guides.
