World University Ranking - September 2021
The University of Nairobi was ranked Number 1 in Kenya,11
th
in Africa  and in the  501-600 category globally among the best universities by Times Higher Education (THE) in the just released World Universities Ranking 2022 report. This is a significant improvement from last year’s ranking, in which UoN emerged 601-800.

Ranking by Subjects
On the ranking by subjects, only 4 subjects were considered in the September 2021 ranking: Life sciences, physical sciences, psychology and clinical and health. Among the four, the University of Nairobi was ranked in 3: ranked 1001+ in Physical Sciences, 801+ in Life Sciences, and 201–250 in Clinical and Health.

URAP 2020-2021 World Ranking is based on
six academic performance indicators

The indicators include article, citation, total document, article impact total, citation impact total and international collaboration. Since URAP is an academic performance based ranking, publications constitute the basis of the ranking methodology. Both quality and quantity of publications and international research collaboration performance are used as indicators.
On this ranking, the University of Nairobi ranked position 1 in Kenya, position 1 in East Africa, and position 1,222 globally.
uniRank
The 2021 African University Ranking by uniRank, analyzed 200 recognized higher-education institutions in the continent against a set criterion.
The uniRank selection criteria considers chartered, licensed and/or accredited by the appropriate higher education-related organization in each country, universities offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees) and institutions delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format.
In this ranking, the University of Nairobi ranked position 1 in Kenya, 1 in East Africa, 9 in Africa, and 946 globally.
