Admissions Requirements
General Admissions Requirements:
All students who apply for our Associate or Bachelor’s programs need the following:
Application for Admissions
All high school transcripts or equivalent
If you are a transfer student: All official college transcripts from previously attended schools that show up in the National Student Clearinghouse
Minimum of a 2.5 GPA or higher in College or minimum overall 80 GPA or higher from high school.
Additional Considerations:
International:
If you completed your high school education outside of the United States, and you attended college in the United States, we will just need a copy of the high school transcript.
If you completed your high school education outside of the United States, and have not attended college in the United States, we will need official translated proof of high school graduation. (Provided through World Education Services (WES)
Additional Requirements by Major:
Practical Nurse Certificate (LPN)
Practical Nurse Certificate (LPN) requirements:
The Practical Nursing Certificate program is a 16-month weekend part-time program with nursing courses beginning in January. Students will graduate ready to take the NCLEX-PN exam.
Application for Admissions
All high school transcripts or equivalent and all college transcripts (if a transfer student) for review.
Minimum of a 2.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.
Passing TEAS VI scores: minimum score is 50% of the national average. TEAS scores are good for admissions for two years.
SAT or ACT can be used in place of the TEAS exam.
Special Exemption: CNA to LPN: Maria’s LPN TEAS requirement is waived for graduates from SCCC’s HPOG Nurse Aide or Home Health Aide program
Important Deadlines:
November 15 – priority 1 deadline. Deposit due by December 15
December 15 – priority 2 deadline. Deposits due by January 5
After December 15, applications reviewed on a space available basis.
Nursing, AAS (RN)
Nursing, AAS (RN) Requirements:
In addition to the general admissions requirements listed above, students who apply to our Nursing, AAS program need the following:
Successful completion of laboratory biology and chemistry is satisfied by one of these three ways:
Final grade of 80 or higher in both subjects from high school.
Minimum C or better from a college biology and chemistry course.
Minimum C or better in a 4-credit Anatomy and Physiology I with lab course transferable to Maria’s Anatomy and Physiology I course.
Testing:
Students who have taken the HESI-A2 can submit those scores instead of the TEAS exam. Maria College requires a minimum competency of 70% in each of the following subject areas Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, Math, Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy & Physiology for the HESI-A2 to be acceptable. Scores from the TEAS and HESI-A2 cannot be combined.
Passing TEAS VI scores: minimum Reading 70.5%, Math 69%, Science 53.6% and English 63.8%. TEAS scores are good for admissions for two years.
SAT (minimum CR 500 and Math 520 or higher) or ACT (Composite score 19 or higher) can be used in place of the TEAS exam.
General Studies with the Intent for Nursing (GSN) process:
If students are not qualified for our Associates in Nursing at the time they apply (ie. biology or chemistry, low GPA or low/no TEAS scores), we have a wonderful pre-nursing track called General Studies with the intention of Nursing. Students will build a strong academic foundation, have a specific administrative advisor dedicated to our pre-nursing process, get support to study and take the TEAS exam, and submit a Change of Status form with the required nursing documents versus applying to the nursing program again. Current students are given priority review for the nursing program. This is a two and a half to three year track.
LPN’s Applying to Nursing, AAS (RN) program:
In addition to the general admissions and Nursing requirements listed above, LPN’s need the following:
Resume
Copy of LPN license
Proof of employment (letter or e-mail from supervisor or HR stating your status as a full or part-time employee)
TEAS VI scores (if done already, but not required for entry to General Studies)
Important Deadlines:

RN-BS Degree in Nursing Completion
RN-BS Degree in Nursing Completion requirements:
Completion of an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited school of nursing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Current unencumbered RN license within the US or US Territories and professional liability coverage or meeting the RN licensure requirement within six months of the completion of a two-year associate degree in nursing.
Important Deadlines:
Application reviewed on a rolling basis until August 1
Occupational Therapy Assistant, AAS
Occupational Therapy Assistant Requirements
In addition to the general admissions requirements listed above, students who apply to our OTA program need the following:
Successful completion of laboratory biology and chemistry is satisfied by one of these three ways:
Final grade of 80 or higher in both subjects from high school.
Minimum C or better from a college biology and chemistry course.
Minimum C or better in a 4-credit Anatomy and Physiology I with lab course transferable to Maria’s Anatomy and Physiology I course.

If students are not qualified for our Associates in OTA at the time they apply, we have a wonderful pre-occupational therapy track called General Studies with the intention of OTA. Students will build a strong academic foundation, have faculty advisor dedicated to our pre-OTA process, and submit a Change of Status form with the required OTA documents, versus apply to the program again. Current students are given priority review for the OTA program.

Occupational Therapy, MSOT
Occupational Therapy, MSOT Requirements:
The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program is a 70-credit, full-time learning program, completed over two years with face-to- face meetings on weekends, in Albany, NY. Upon successful completion, program graduates are eligible to sit for the occupational therapy national certification exam, through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Passing the certification exam allows graduates to apply for occupational therapy licenses in the states of their choosing.
Students who apply to our MSOT need the following:
Application for Admissions
Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Students may apply with 100 undergraduate credits done and the potential of finishing degree before start of program.
All academic transcripts from all colleges attended
Resume of professional, educational, and volunteer experiences
Personal Essay/Statement
Two Academic Letters of Recommendation
Supportive documentation showing a minimum of 20 hours of supervised clinical observation.
Required Pre-requisites with a minimum of a 3.2 college GPA or before the start of the Fall semester:
Abnormal Psychology
Anatomy & Physiology I and II with Labs
Applied Kinesiology (recommended)
Developmental Psychology or Lifespan Human Development
General Psychology
Gross Anatomy with Lab or Neurobiology with Lab (recommended)
Sociology
Statistics and/or Research Methods
