Department of Youth Affairs, being an important part of the University, working for the overall development of the students. With an objective to nurturing the young minds for their balanced growth and development. To channelize their energies in a positive way, Department of Youth Affairs organizes several activities to give a platform and develop the hidden talent. As the department encourages the young students to come forward and prove themselves by participating in various creative activities, in the same way the active participation of the students in these activities encourage the department to provide them more opportunities for their overall growth.
Department organizes chain of activities throughout the year as Youth leadership training camps, F.D.P for Youth Coordinators, Four Zonal and Inter Zonal Youth Festivals….

The Sports Department in the University has been established to promote the spirit of Sports participation amongst the students. The Department annually organizes the various activities under the guidance of the Sports Council of the University. The University also participates in different Inter-Varsity games.The Sports Department of the University is visualizing programmes to increase participation of students in different sports activities by offering financial incentives to the medal winners in different Inter-Varsity sports tournaments.
The entire tuition fee of the medal winners at the Inter-Varsity level is refunded by the University. The University every year honors students who have scored more than 75% marks in addition to winning a medal in AIU sponsored All India or North-Zone sports or Youth Festival competitions. Every year conducts 16 Inter-College tournaments (Men & Women) for different games.

NSS
NSS Department of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University is working on various areas of overall development, be it rural development or raising awareness on issues of environment, cleanliness, health issues, drug de-addiction, road safety, personality development and so on. The NSS activities carried out under the guidance of the NSS advisory council of the university, which is chaired by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. He presides over all the meetings of the council. At present there are 74 units working in various affiliated colleges of IKGPTU including main campus at Kapurthala and its constituent campuses at Amritsar, Batala and Mohali. With a combined strength of 7400 dedicated NSS volunteers, NSS department of I.K.G. Punjab Technical University is one of the largest programs in the country and one of the decorated one. These 74 units are working on the areas where activities like seminars, workshops, field visits and surveys are carried out whole of the year. These 74 units have adopted 74 villages /slums to serve the community according to need of hours.
In every session, NSS department organizes a host o f NSS activities in University Main and constituent campuses and different colleges affiliated to the university. In academic session 2019-20, NSS organized various activities.
