Former LFA track and field standout
Kate Delia ’25
claimed a NCAA individual championship in the women’s 800-meter run on Saturday. In addition to winning her individual race, she helped Washington University in St. Louis capture the team title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
Delia opened the race in fourth place through two laps around the 200-meter banked track at the Birmingham (Ala.) Crossplex before she started her charge to the front of the pack towards the end of the third lap. As the fourth and final lap started, Delia built a substantial lead to dominate the race in a meet record time of 2:07.69. That time marks the seventh-fastest 800m race ever at the NCAA Division III level.
Delia reached the finals after recording a time of 2:10.61 in Friday’s qualifier that placed her fourth overall among the 20 competitors as she joined seven other finalists for the Saturday evening championship race.
At LFA, Delia firmly established her name among the best runners in program history as she holds school records in the 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, and the 4x400m relay.
