The Augusta Museum of History has many areas available for volunteers to work with the public or behind-the-scenes, from educational activities to maintaining our collections to helping lead tours through our exhibitions. Join like-minded individuals and meet new people, gain knowledge, experience and help tell the story of our community. At the same time, you will strengthen the Museum’s mission and play an active role in its success. You do not need to have a history background to be involved. We will train you! Volunteers are welcome to work any schedule they desire. Perhaps you can help for one afternoon or morning a week, or maybe just one Saturday a month. If that’s too much, the museum always needs extra hands for special events. We also encourage our volunteers to share our social media posts! “Like Us” and “Follow Us” on Facebook, and Instagram. To discuss volunteer opportunities at the Augusta Museum of History, please call 706-722-8454 or email amh@augustamuseum.org with Volunteer in the subject line. Administrative Administrative volunteers help with administrative projects on an as-needed basis in various departments. Administrative volunteers work with the Museum staff in records management, membership processing, and various light clerical duties. On-the-job training is provided as needed. Projects are periodic; there is no minimum time commitment for volunteers. Collections Collections volunteers work with the Museum's Registrar cataloging and processing a wide range of the Museum’s collections and artifacts. Knowledge of museum terminology helpful; experience working with computers and willingness to sit at a computer for extended periods of time; attention to detail and accuracy a must along with legible and neat handwriting. Museum Education Do you enjoy interacting with people and sparking their curiosity? You could be a perfect fit for our volunteer team that creates memorable experiences for visitors of all ages. These roles tend to be more hands-on and experiential. This placement requires an enthusiasm for local history and a talent for communication with children and adults. Additional training may be required for some of these positions. We are also open to volunteers helping us research and create educational activities. Special Projects and Events Special Projects and Events volunteers assist staff with projects and events on an as-needed basis. Events generally occur after hours or on weekends.  Duties and hours vary depending on type and size of event.  No minimum time commitment is required.
