Before the half-term, we had a busy day focused on careers at Hawi. Year 10 students participated in their first mock interview. Our external volunteers noted that this year, the students appeared even more prepared and confident, which is promising for this wonderful group of future professionals. Meanwhile, Year 7 students (Y7) explored the construction industry, one of the key growth sectors. They tackled a challenge in pairs and then presented their ideas to professionals from the construction field. The professionals were very impressed by their work! A special shout-out to Iris, Bianca, and Nefeli, who did an exceptional job and greatly impressed both the teacher and the industry professionals!

We are delighted to share that a group of our Nature Club students recently took part in a special community event to celebrate the official opening of High Path Pocket Park.
On Thursday 26 March, students attended a morning planting session where they actively contributed to establishing this new green space. They worked alongside members of the local community, taking part in hands-on planting activities and helping to bring the park to life.
This was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with nature, learn more about the environment, and make a positive contribution to the local area. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to supporting a greener community.
Well done to all students involved!

The Year 7 and Year 8 netball teams delivered two exciting and competitive matches against Hollyfield last Thursday. The Year 7 team secured a fantastic 6–3 victory, with all six goals scored by Diane in an outstanding shooting performance. The team worked brilliantly together, rotating players through different positions and showing great versatility across the court. In defence, Marnie and Astrid formed a strong partnership in GD and GK, while Florence, Iris and Zara linked play effectively through the centre third in C, WA and WD. In attack, Grace, Isabella, Lauren and Diane combined well in GA and GS to maintain the team’s winning momentum.
The Year 8 team narrowly missed out on a win, losing 7–6 in a hard-fought and closely contested match. It was an excellent defensive display, with Roheya at GK and GDs Savannah and Maya working tirelessly to disrupt Hollyfield’s attack. Gabi controlled the game well in the centre position, while Amelia and Alba showed determination in WD to limit the opposition’s progress into the attacking third. In attack, Tess and Anna worked tirelessly at WA to create opportunities for shooters Zaina (GS) and Caroline (GA), who made the most of their chances in a very competitive game.

HAWI's Y9 Hockey Team travelled to the U14 London State School Championships at Southgate Hockey Club last Friday.
In an amazing outcome, the A team finished 3rd place (winning 4 games, drawing one and losing only one match). They were fantastic throughout and only missed out on second by goal difference (they also beat the Central Foundation, who ended up finishing second!). The B team also showed a good account of themselves, drawing two games to take 6th place overall. Overall, we
had some of the best teams there; in the end, the boys missed out on winning the whole thing due to 1-2 individual players at Kingsdale and CFB who made the difference (due to a gap in hockey experience).
This is a culmination of a huge amount of commitment and hard work from this group, who have barely missed a hockey club session since Year 7. The team has won 3 medals in tournaments this year, including 1 gold, 1 silver and one bronze. Furthermore, most of the team are now training at Merton Hockey Club on Thursdays and Saturdays; a few of the team have represented them at U14 an U16 already. Mr Heald is excited about what will come in future years! Well done to them all.

Year 9 students led a brilliant day of fundraising for their chosen
charities as part of the First Give Initiative. Students from the
different groups organised a wide range of activities, including a
bake sale, push up competitions, penalty shoot out, selling homemade lemonade, raffle and a spin the wheel event to raise money!
It was extremely impressive to see how year 9 students took responsibility for their own organisation of fundraising, demonstrating a great deal of independence. Alongside raising money for some wonderful charities such as Dons Local Action Group, Wimbledon Guild and Cancer Research UK, their social action will also
count towards their Bronze DofE Volunteering section, making the
day even more worthwhile.

This year, students at Harris Academy Wimbledon enthusiastically took part in British Science Week 2026, exploring a wide range of scientific ideas through hands-on activities and investigations.
Year 7 and Year 8 students focused on the important topic of the water dilemma. They explored global challenges surrounding access to
clean water and investigated different methods of water purification. Through practical activities and discussions, students learned how science and engineering can help provide safe drinking water around the world.
Year 9 and Year 10 students delved into the curiosity of mammals and broader biological sciences. Through a rat dissection, students
were able to explore mammalian anatomy and understand how organ systems work together. Students also took part in a DNA extraction practical, where they learned how genetic material can be isolated and studied. In addition, they explored the fascinating field of astrobiology, investigating how scientists search for signs of life beyond Earth and what conditions might support living organisms.
Our after-school science activities were equally engaging. Students participated in a variety of enrichment projects, including:
• Making new paper from recycled paper, learning about sustainability and material reuse.
• Dissecting a dogfish, which helped students compare fish anatomy with other vertebrates.
• Further exploring rat anatomy, building on classroom learning.
• Designing and building insect hotels, discovering how these structures support biodiversity and provide habitats for beneficial insects.
British Science Week was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience science beyond the classroom, developing curiosity, practical skills, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our students throughout the week.
