The museum of everyday life in Roman Britain
Built on the site of one of the largest Roman cities in Britain, Verulamium Museum is filled with ancient treasures and some of the finest mosaics outside of the Mediterranean.
Bring the entire family and explore the wonders of Roman life, immerse yourself in recreated Roman rooms and admire the craftsmanship of the intricate large-scale mosaics on display.
In addition to hands-on discovery areas for younger visitors, the museum also provides a selection of free activity sheets for children and dressing up clothes are available on weekends and school holidays.

Opening Hours
Open Monday - Sunday: 10am - 4pm (last admission at 3.30pm). Please note that on weekdays in term time, we often have multiple school groups in our galleries. If you would prefer a quieter time to visit, we recommend visiting from 2.30pm.

Free Gallery Talks Every Weekend
The story of the Roman Town of Verulamium comes to life in these regular gallery talks on a variety of subjects at 2:30pm every weekend at Verulamium Museum.  The talk is free, but there is an entrance charge to the Museum.

Purchasing your tickets
Tickets can be bought in advance online or in person at our welcome desk. Please note that if you're purchasing online, tickets are allocated in half-day slots (10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm). Please don't worry if you want to visit outside of your time allocation, you ticket will be valid for any time on the day of your booking.

Beyond the Museum
After your visit to Verulamium Museum you can explore remains of the Roman town in Verulamium Park. Directly outside the museum you can visit the
Roman Hypocaust
, and if you venture a little further, you can see visit the Roman Theatre and see the Roman city walls too.

Green Flag park
(recognising well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for green spaces across the United Kingdom and the world).
Verulamium Park has a
Green Heritage Site Accreditation
, supported by Historic England, for the excellent management of its ancient Roman features. It was one of only 130 sites across the country to achieve this honour.
Today, Verulamium Park boasts a lovely lake, plenty of wildlife, and children's play areas.

Verulamium Museum is wheelchair-accessible - the entrance, shop and galleries are all on one level and there is a lift to reach the accessible WC in the basement.
There is a sloped path leading from the car park to the museum entrance. The glass doors on the far right open automatically when entering and are operated by a push button when exiting.
We offer both audio and written guides to help you explore the museum, just speak to a member of our team when you arrive.

By car:
The museum is a short drive from St Albans city centre, accessible via St Michael's Street or off Bluehouse Hill (the A4147).
Please note: at weekends or on sunny days, the car park can get busy.
There is a pay and display St Michael's village
car park
in front of the museum which has 150 spaces, including 7 disabled bays and is open 24 hours.
