Industrial Biotechnology
This two-year
full-time MSc programme
encompasses an in-depth training in various industrially essential areas, such as fermentation, microbiology, drug discovery and synthetic biology. Through this course, students will acquire an applied understanding of the computational tools, analytical methods and how to utilise their advanced knowledge in bio-business to develop relevant and necessary products for the industrial sector.
This Programme Covers
Industrial bioprocess technology, scale-up and downstream processing
Fundamentals and practice of Synthetic Biology
Directed evolution; microbiome, metagenomics and bioinformatics
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mitigation
Drug discovery; associated regulatory and IP issues
Microbial technologies including biocatalysis; re- and upcycling of industrial waste
Extremophiles
Biosensors
Principles of the circular economy and sustainable product design
Exchange and Travel Opportunities
There will be an opportunity for student placements at the University of Edinburgh during the programme
Professional Opportunities
Students graduating from the programme will find employment opportunities in various industries, both national and international companies. They will also possess the skills to generate ideas for their own business or continue in other university-based research settings
