Choirs of all sizes, ages and genres took part throughout the day across two main venues, the Calne Town Hall and St Mary’s Church, with a lunchtime ‘Big Sing’ for all held in the Calne Pocket Park. The event offered a fun, free day of music for the whole community, and there was a wonderful buzz around the town as the performers arrived, with sunshine helping to lift everyone’s spirits. The Major Minors’ were the first choir of the day to perform in the St Mary’s Paris Church, and their upbeat repertoire and energetic performance set the tone for an uplifting day of song. Musical Director, Mrs Bethan Dudley-Fryar, said of the performance: ‘Taking part in the Calne Spring Sing is always a highlight for Major Minors, and performing in St Mary’s Parish Church gave the young singers a strong sense of occasion. Their cheerful pieces were perfect for their morning performance slot and allowed them to sing with confidence, while their crisp choreography was engaging and full of energy. It was another memorable performance that certainly charmed the audience.’ The Major Minors Children’s Choir is for boys and girls from Year 2 to 6 from St Margaret’s Prep and primary schools in and around Calne. A community and music initiative that works across both St Mary’s and St Margaret’s Calne, the choir is led by Mrs Bethan Dudley Fryar, Director of Vocal Studies at St Mary’s Calne.
