Celebrating and Archiving a Modern Mother’s Movement – We Put M/otherhood on the Map!
Serving, Celebrating and Creating Community
We are thrilled to introduce you to Tampa Bay’s first and only women’s museum
– an initiative that highlights m/others and others in the arts, science and herstory. We are making waves and changing narratives about the ways we work, love and cherish our one big human family! Together we grow in connection, brilliance and a shared affection for the most beautiful things life has to offer.
MoM is the first and only
exhibition and education center devoted to the art, science, and
her
story of women, m/others, and families.
Our mission
is to start great conversations, create thought-provoking exhibits, and cultivate community in a safe and supportive environment while informing and inspiring lives.
Talking Points
MoM is a local/global initiative
. We organize international arts exhibits, workshops in maternal well-being, community events, mentorships with local students, and educational programs like our ‘Escape Womb’ experience.
The Museum of Motherhood
redefines how we talk about motherhood — from the
perspective of m/others. Through exhibitions and education, we tackle the ubiquitous nature of reproductive identity, birth, and parenting by examining the social, psychological, and economic realities embedded in these experiences and by turning the lens squarely on the people at the center of these endeavors. We highlight research in this area and share mother-made art through exhibitions online and in person offering opportunities for dissemination that have not previously existed. We challenge limiting ideologies and encourage more compassionate connections by drawing attention to individual stories, empowering women’s articulations, and by confronting isolation through our creative and inclusive community. Through this lens women take their rightful place in our collective cultural narrative and the whole human family benefits.
The MOM Art Annex
is a certified 501c3 nonprofit overseeing growth of the Museum of Motherhood project. Fundraising for acquisitions, programming, and the museum’s physical campus is ongoing. Every donation helps!
MoM Loves You
Our priorities are love and inclusion for all human beings whatever their experiences.
We are healers, peacemakers and culture-builders and therefore advocates for positive health outcomes. We are devoted to educating the world about the contributions and experience of women & mothers both historically and in contemporary culture within the body of this great big human family. We counter narratives that have kept women less visible while educating future generations through our exhibits, events, resource center, scholarship, and educational partnerships.
Education:
Champion the emerging field of Mother Studies at the academic level while educating the public about women’s evolving histories, identities, and roles in the home and in society.
Inclusivity:
Engage with people of all ages in an inclusive, supportive, and enriching environment.
Community
: Celebrate and empower communities through our shared human heritage: We all have a reproductive identity.
Advocacy:
Advocacy:
Explore policy and advocacy related to women’s issues, parenting, and children, while championing the science of pregnancy, birth, menstruation, conception, and matrescence.
Empowerment:
We connect with students, travelers, and families from around the world reminding them of our collective shared status, our origin stories, and the inherent creativity of the human experience for the empowerment of all while elevating the artistic endeavors of m/others.
MoM creates, produces, and presents visual, literary, educational, academic, and performing arts exhibits and education that celebrate, nurture and support individuals with a special emphasis on identity, experience, and community
. We keep abreast of changing birth technologies and give voice to a mom-made art movement through our actions while focusing on the social, psychological, physical, and economic realities embedded in these experiences. MoM connects students, women, men, m/others and families through reproductive identity, music, art, activism, and education for cultural, economic, and social awareness. MoM acts as a safe space for healing, inspiration, and illumination.
MoM welcomes people
of all ages and stages of reproductive experience including non-binary individuals, and those living through pregnancy, adoption, menses, loss, justice issues, illness, and disability as well as those who are childfree by choice. We believe in the principles of diversity and inclusion and emphasize a multicultural, intersectional approach to our partners, neighbors, volunteers and community members. Respect, appreciation and love are our guiding principles.
MoM is a living museum
. We grow, evolve, and transform according to YOU – our members, volunteers, and partners. That is why we encourage great conversations, support thought-provoking exhibits, and offer resources for people to engage in activities centered around identity and culture in a safe and inclusive environment. MoM encourages a deeper understanding of the labor and investment made by those birthing and raising the next generation as well as serving to deconstruct dominant stereotypes in order to increase our overall understanding of the family experience. We are awesomely made!
