Field Trip Topics:
Air & Wind
Grade:
K thru 2nd
We are surrounded by Earth’s atmosphere, an amazing mixture of gases that sustains life on our planet. By participating in exploration activities, students learn how different properties of air are used in various real-world applications. Students also learn what forces drive winds that sweep through our lives and create weather systems.
Water
Grade:
K-5th
Water is the basis of life on Earth. In this class students will experiment with the unique qualities of water. Flow, surface tension, capillary action, buoyancy are some of the topics that are covered. Students also gain an appreciation of the limited amount of water on Earth and how water cycles through the earth and atmosphere.
Take Flight
Grade:
1st-3rd
It’s a plane! It’s a rocket! It’s taking flight! Students will learn about aerodynamics and engineering as they build rockets and planes that defy gravity!
Earthquakes
Grade:
2nd-5th
What is an earthquake? How is it created? Students will learn about plate tectonics and how earthquakes are formed during tectonic movement. Practice your Earthquake readiness and build homes that can withstand a powerful earthquake.
Electricity & Magnetism
Grade:
3rd-5th
Electricity and magnetism are two different, but closely related, natural forces in our world. Through hands-on exploration, students learn the basic properties of electricity and magnetism by pulling electrons off each other, creating circuits that control the flow of electricity, magnetically testing familiar objects and more.
Chemistry - Explosive Science
Grade:
2nd-5th
Explosions! Fizz! Messy Science! Students will learn about acids and bases while creating the different reactions.
Food for Thought
Grade:
2nd-5th
Food for Thought illuminates that each of us has a direct impact on the environment by our interaction with the food system. Through games and activities, we explore the impact of shopping for, growing, cooking and disposing of food and packaging. We also explore the amazing positive change taking place by dedicated scientists as well as the positive impact of composting.
Nature Builds
Grade:
1st-5th
Connect with nature through Nature builds! Students will learn about San Francisco Native animals and work together to create the ideal habitat using natural materials!
Animal Experience
Grade:
K and up
Meet our Animal Ambassadors! Students will learn about reptiles and invertebrates. Each class is an introduction to one of our many animal ambassadors. Students will learn about a specific species and interact with them face to face.
Planetarium
Grade:
2nd and up
Space is so vast! Learn about our solar system, moon, stars and night sky in our mobile planetarium.
