AIUB Initiatives towards SDGs
Sustainable Development is one of the five strategic pillars included in
AIUB's ten-year Academic Strategic Plan (ASP '23), that covers the
period from 2023 to 2033. AIUB has been dedicated to promoting qualitative
development, and as such, sustainability is a core value and responsibility of
the university. The central priority of AIUB is to prioritize sustainability
in its teaching, research, and innovation efforts, with a focus on delivering
a sustainable future for its stakeholders, particularly its students.
AIUB's Sustainable Development plan outlines the university's approach
to addressing current and future challenges to achieve sustainability across
various dimensions including socio-economic, cultural, and environmental
sustainability. AIUB has launched several initiatives aimed at advancing the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on
internationalization and fulfilling its social contract. Moreover, AIUB has
made sustainability a compulsory component in all current degree programs and
has integrated it into various other areas, such as research endeavors,
library resources, student clubs, and other extracurricular activities. To
further promote sustainability, AIUB has established the Dr. Anwarul Abedin
Institute of Innovation (D2A2I), which undertakes projects in areas including
teaching-learning, research, operations and governance with the aim of
empowering students as future leaders.
AIUB is a Signatory of SDG Accord

Initiatives of AIUB on SDGs
Following are the steps that is followed by AIUB since 2016 after joining the
Higher Education Sustainability Initiative conference:
Teach sustainable development:
A good number of seminars and
workshops are arranged for awareness on sustainable development. The speakers
and participants thoroughly discussed the targets and goals to identify the
field/area where changes are needed. Accordingly, the curriculum and syllabus
are revised after considering the feedback from all the stakeholders.
Encourage research on sustainable development
: Recent data
shows that the faculty members from all the 4 Faculties are conducting quality
research on sustainable development and published journal articles, newspaper
article, book chapters, research monograph, etc. The faculty members of AIUB
also served as resource person in different seminars and workshop to share the
research output with the other academic and industry personnel. AIUB expect
that more quality research will be undertaken by the faculty and students in
the coming days.
Green campus and support local sustainability efforts:
The
newly built permanent campus of AIUB in 13-acre land is one of the picturesque
green campuses of the country. Although the modern state of art technology is
used in AIUB campus, however, it was ensured the campus remains green. AIUB
arrange periodically different awareness program for the community to support
and ensure clean cities, renewable energy, good health, decent work, quality
education, peace and justice.
Engage and share information with international network:
AIUB
has initiated to arrange at least 2 international conference per year with an
aim to engage and share the research information among the scholars around the
world. For example, the last conference arranged by Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences in January 2022 was held with a title ‘International Conference
on Sustainable Development: Opportunities and Challenges’ where 82
scholarly research output was presented and discussed among the participants.
Gender Equality and Reduce Inequalities:
In the world half of
the world’s population is women and girls, so it represents half of its
potential. To achieve peaceful and sustainable human society development
gender equality is very crucial. Empowering women boosts the socio-economic
development and productivity of a country. Moreover, gender equality is one of
the fundamental human right as well. AIUB is promoting gender equality through
different schemes and policies not only in the higher education but also in
the context social responsibility. Additionally, to reduce inequalities, AIUB
is also supporting disadvantaged and underprivileged students in their access
and completion to higher education.
To conclude, AIUB plays a proactive role for achieving the targets and goals
for sustainable development by 2030. AIUB encourages various activities that
address capacity building and develops skills to meet the requirements and
challenges for SDGs.
