At Hampshire, our message is simple: To know is not enough. For us this means to focus on meeting the challenges ahead. Be experience-based. Be learner-centered. Be inquiry-driven. Be an Entrepreneur of Your Own Education. How do we fight for climate change? How to we work for racial justice? These questions drive us. No other undergraduate institution approaches learning the way we do. Curricula are student-designed, meaning you choose your faculty to work with based on the questions you care about and create a personalized track that will empower you to make the greatest impact on the world. A college experience unlike anyone else The Hampshire Experience At Hampshire, you’ll work across, between, and without disciplines—and you’ll  combine fields to curate your own original course of study. You’ll be challenged with the freedom to formulate questions never asked before. Instead of grades, your performance will be assessed with constructive, written feedback from faculty members, based on reviews of your projects, your engagement in classes and community, your writings, your art, and more. You’ll also take part in a curriculum that reflects the world around us—ever-changing, fluid, and never contained within a single discipline. Our Learning Collaborative-based curriculum is experimental and radical. It extends beyond conventional ways of teaching, learning, and living. There is no other undergraduate institution that approaches learning this way. We Have a History of Changing the Future. Since we opened in 1970, we've been transforming the way higher education is delivered, and reinventing ourselves again and again to respond to the needs of students and the world. Known as the original disruptors, we are the only college that has always had experimentation at the core of our mission. Agents of Change A Hampshire education extends beyond the classroom into all we do and why we do it: We participate in the Entrepreneurship Initiative , which encourages entrepreneurial activity in our local community. In fact, entrepreneurship runs deep at Hampshire, where one quarter of our graduates start their own business or nonprofit. We’ve discarded conventional ways of building. Our R.W. Kern Center produces its own energy, gathers its own water, and treats its own waste. We have an on-campus farm that is ranked one of the best college farms in the country . A hands-on learning laboratory for students, the farm was started for academic research and expanded as a student's Division III project. Today, its harvest feeds our campus and local community! These are just a few examples of how we help develop intellectual curiosity and ethical courage in our students—confidence to turn ideas into action and to make meaningful change in the world. This is how we learn without boundaries. Hampshire Changemakers The world looks to Hampshire graduates for leadership in hundreds of fields. How will the world look to you? Hampshire was among the first schools in the country to be test optional, a policy the College has followed since opening in 1970. While Hampshire has never required SATs or ACTs, in the past we would review these scores if a student wished to submit them as part of an application. As of 2014, we haven't even accepted them; we are entirely test free in our admissions process.
