The GAC Track & Field program delivered a championship performance at the Area Meet, with the girls team capturing the
Area Title
with an impressive 199.83 points, while the boys secured a strong runner-up finish with 149 points.
The meet was highlighted by a historic performance from Chase Sykes, who set a new school record in the 400 meters with a time of 48.43, marking one of the top moments of the day.
Sydney Sherrod led the charge for the girls, earning three individual event victories in the long jump, 200 meters, and 400 meters. In the field events, Elijah Proctor dominated on the boys’ side with wins in both the discus and shot put. Jermani Govan added a win in the girls’ shot put, while Ivey Nemorin captured first place in the girls’ discus.
On the track, Ben Leslie claimed the boys’ 300-meter hurdles title, while Ariel Harris, Kelsey Bailey, and Fana Thomas each contributed valuable points with strong finishes in the hurdle events.
Relay teams were instrumental in the team success. The girls’ 4x100 relay team of Leila Charron, Ariel Harris, Fana Thomas, and Miya Milsap captured first place, while the boys’ 4x200 relay team of Chase Sykes, Michael Miller, Charles Mercer, and Jaden Anderson also brought home gold. Several other relay teams added runner-up finishes, helping secure crucial team points.
With a dominant showing from the girls and a strong overall performance from the boys, GAC Track & Field continues to build momentum heading into the next stage of postseason competition.
