Our Volunteer Programs
The San Antonio Museum of Art has welcomed individuals to volunteer their time to assist with a variety of programs and projects in the past. The Museum would not be what it is today without the dedicated volunteers that serve, educate, and welcome Museum visitors. All volunteer positions are unpaid; interviews and background checks are required.

Docents
The Museum welcomes friendly people who enjoy engaging in dialogue with a variety of museum patrons of all ages, especially school‐aged children. Docents must have a sincere interest in art and history (though no formal background is required in either subject area), as well as a passion for lifelong-learning and education.
Becoming a docent is a commitment. Docents commit to a minimum of three years of service, including two years of weekly training during the academic year (September–May).
Note:
Applications for the next volunteer docent cohort will be open June 1–July 31, 2026. Docent training is not an internship and cannot be used for course credit.
Interns
All intern positions are for currently enrolled university/college students receiving course credit. Please view

to view intern application deadlines and available positions. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid.
Education Department Volunteer
The Education Department Volunteer program is for adults (college and beyond) dedicated to actively contributing to the Museum's educational initiatives. Volunteers assist with various programs and events, including Haven for Hope art classes, Family Day, Film on the Green, and more. Ideal applicants are friendly, flexible, and comfortable interacting with children and visitors of all backgrounds.

Museum Teens
Applications are currently closed.
Museum Teens are volunteers aged 14 to 18 who assist local artists and staff during Family Day: See + Do events at the Museum. We welcome teens who love talking about art, making art, and helping families with art activities. Applicants should be flexible, comfortable speaking with visitors, and enjoy working with art materials. Teen volunteers must commit to volunteering for at least 4 Family Days during a school or calendar year and provide their own transportation. A parent/guardian release form must be submitted as part of your application if you are under 18.
