Quiet times & ear defenders
We are generally a quiet museum, but do get busier on the weekends. For the quietest time we recommend an afternoon weekday visit
If you would like to avoid busy hours and tours, please do get in touch so we can let you know which days are most peaceful
Although we do not have a dedicated quiet space, do get in touch ahead of your visit to check whether there is a space available for you to use
We have two pairs of ear defenders which are available at the reception desk
Large print guides & lighting
All interpretation is available in large print and can be found in all galleries. We update this as best as we can alongside our exhibitions, however if you are experiencing any issues then do speak to reception or one of our gallery stewards who will be very happy to help
Magnifying glasses are available on request
Some light levels in the Museum are lower to protect the collection. Visitors can request a torch from reception if needed
If you have a severe visual impairment please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs
Subtitles
All films in the Museum and in our exhibitions are subtitled
Museum entrance & lifts
We have a lift to all floors. The dimensions are: width 80cm, height 200cm, length 140cm
There is a ramp leading to the front door
Wheelchairs
We have one non-motorised wheelchair available to borrow
To reserve the wheelchair please call our Visitor Engagement Manager on 020 7841 3600 or email tabitha@foundlingmusuem.org.uk. If possible please give us one week’s notice
Unfortunately we cannot provide assistance for using the wheelchair. Should you need assistance we recommend bringing a friend with you who will be admitted free of charge
We do permit mobility scooters, but please note the width restrictions of the lift
Seating
Visitors can sit on the green chairs and pews located on all floors
We have lightweight folding chairs available for use by visitors, there are 9 in total. These are located next to the lift on all floors except the 2nd floor. Please help yourself
Visitors are very welcome to bring their own folding stools if preferred
Toilets
Most of our toilets are gender neutral and have separate cubicles with sinks
We have two wheelchair accessible toilets, located on the ground floor and lower ground floor. Both are fitted with a pull cord alarm
We do not have a changing places toilet
Assistance dogs
All assistance dogs are welcome at the Museum
A water bowl is available on request, please ask at reception if you would like to use it
There is a park in front of the Museum should your dog need to use the bathroom
Unfortunately in order to protect the collection, we can only allow assistance dogs in the Museum. Even the best-behaved pets can have accidents.
Induction loops
We have an induction loop located at the reception desk, as well as in the Study Studio and Clore Creative Studio
Parking
The Museum does not have a dedicated car park
Visitors with a Blue Badge for disabled parking may park outside the Museum on the single yellow line for up to 3 hours, or in the residents’ bays opposite the entrance. Blue Badges must be displayed at all times.
On Sundays parking is free in the spaces directly in front of the Museum, although space is limited
We welcome any feedback or ideas for improving access at the Museum.
