Come and visit the ONLY museum in Georgia to tell the on-going story of education in Georgia's public schools since 1734. Walk through education before the Digital Age. The Georgia Retired Educators Museum is a collaboration among the state's finest teachers to collect from schools all around Georgia artifacts that illustrate how Georgia's educators have adapted in order to provide the best education for Georgia students. View an old-fashioned one-room schoolhouse, a Ditto machine, a library complete with a card catalog, overhead projectors, slate boards, slide projector, 8mm movie projector, and more! Learn how policy changes and cultural changes have impacted the environment of students and teachers with a visual timeline from 1734 to present day. Sign our guest book, ring the old school bell, and take a walk on the brick plaza honoring contributors who provided the primary funding source for the museum letting it be built without use of tax money.
Incorporate your visit with a trip to beautiful Lake Lanier, Amicalola Falls State Park, Dahlonega’s Gold Museum, Georgia’s own Alpine Village in Helen, Georgia Mountains History Museum, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, or hop on I-85 for a 45-minute-drive to Atlanta.
The museum is open for self-guided tours Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
