Aelius Biotech is a contract research company specialising in modelling the mucosal surfaces of the aerodigestive tract. Aelius' Integrated Model Gut System is a lab model. JawSpace
JawSpace is a company that ‘spun in’ to the University in 2024. JawSpace provides guidance and the opportunity for people to self-manage Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). TMD are a group of conditions affecting the jaw joint and associated structures including the muscles that move it. TMD are the 2nd most common cause of facial pain after toothache and can also result in difficulties with jaw function, e.g. limited mouth opening or ‘locking’.
JawSpace provides comprehensive self-management tools and strategies tailored to the individual user, helping them to live well by effectively managing their TMD symptoms.

Jetbio has been established to commercialise Newcastle University's patented bioprinting technology. Microbial Electrolysis Cells (MECs) to treat wastewater in an innovative way

Naturally occurring electrogenic bacteria digest organic waste anaerobically. These bacteria donate electrons to an electrical circuit during this process, producing a small current.
To enhance the efficiency and output of our system, we apply a controlled potential difference across the electrodes. This adjustment allows us to generate various valuable by-products at the cathode, such as hydrogen and ammonia, directly from the treatment process.

Sapien View
Sapien View is an exciting spin out opportunity led by Professor Colin Wilson, transplant surgeon and Honorary Professor at Newcastle University. The first product to be launched is an Organ Quality Assessment tool (“OrQA”) which uses visual AI to aid surgeons when assessing organs for transplantation. This will create the first global objective standard score for assessing the viability of an organ for transplant which in turn is expected to lead to a global increase in transplantations of Livers (OrQA-L), Kidneys (OrQA-K) and Pancreas (OrQA-P). This will save lives, increase revenues for transplant centres and reduce dialysis costs.

Skin Life Analytics
Skin Life Analytics developed a non-invasive test that can reveal if a person's skin is at risk of ageing prematurely. This could be from lifestyle risks such as exposure to sunlight and poor sleep, which can damage skin cells. In addition to a skin swab, the test includes a lifestyle assessment that can suggest changes to improve skin condition. They also utilise face scan technology to pinpoint areas that would benefit from a targeted care regime.
