One of the first neighborhood libraries when it opened in 1922, this Capitol Hill location serves a diverse and vibrant community that is home to the similarly historic Eastern Market.
The library is currently closed for a full modernization The last day of service for the Southeast Library was Jan. 4, 2024. Holds that customers placed between Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023 and Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 that have not been fulfilled have been automatically transferred to the Interim Library, the Northeast Library. Customers who would like to choose another pick-up location can select one in their My Account settings.

Southeast Library Construction Updates

DC Public Library is modernizing the Southeast Library. DC Public Library has hired the design/build team of Whiting-Turner Construction/Quinn Evans Architects for the $33 million transformation of this historic Carnegie library. The design will be a blend of preservation, renovation and rehabilitation. Customers will have access to a variety of interim services during the renovation.
