The Livingstone Campus Police Department is dedicated to ensuring that your educational needs are met in a safe and secure environment. Students, faculty and staff at Livingstone College enter an atmosphere that is carefully planned to meet their safety and security needs. We are dedicated and committed to supporting and enhancing the learning process at Livingstone College.
To provide support to the overall mission of Livingstone College. To Support and enhance the learning process. Livingstone Campus Police Department is established to provide quality law enforcement and public safety services to our Livingstone college community focusing on goals, objectives, values and partnerships. To provide protection of life and property; to reduce crime. The partnership between Livingstone College Community and law enforcement will be crucial to the success of this mission. The combination of community involvement and pro-active law enforcement is an important link to insuring the safety to all Livingstone College Community. The mission will be accomplished through reasonable and prudent law enforcement and the quality service to the Student body, Faculty and Staff based upon high ethical, professional, legal, and moral standards.

The Livingstone Campus Police/Security Department takes pride in providing a safe and learning environment for the students, faculty and staff of this great institution. It is our organizational belief that teamwork makes the dreams work. In partnership with the Salisbury Police Department, Salisbury Fire Department and our college community , we will continue our community-oriented policing approach in addressing crime. We will continue to build relationships in Rowan and neighboring counties to improve safety on our campus.
We shall continue to cultivate relationships with state, local and federal agencies to assure the best measures of safety are being implemented on our campus.

Annual Safety Report
Livingstone College releases the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, in compliance with the Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Under federal law, all colleges and universities receiving federal student aid are required to produce and make available policy safety policy statements and statistics about campus crime.

Campus Policies
The Livingstone Campus Police/Security Department assesses risk, develops plans and implements programs to protect lives and property. Our primary goal is to stop or reduce any accidents or incidents from occurring at Livingstone College. It is our goal to provide a quiet and peaceable learning environment for our institution. The various departments to assist in this matter, includes police, security, physical plant, business finance and student affairs.

We believe teamwork enables us to effectively and safely provide a healthy, safe, and secure environment for everyone that is a part of our campus community.
The Campus Security Act – Legal Requirements the Campus Security Act requires colleges and universities to: publish an annual report every year by October 1 that contains three years of campus crime statistics and certain campus security policy statements. Disclose crime statistics for the campus, public areas immediately adjacent to or running through the campus, and certain non-campus facilities and remote classrooms. The statistics may be gathered from campus police or security, local law enforcement, and other University officials who have “significant responsibility for student and campus activities. Provide “timely warning” notices of those crimes that have occurred and pose an ongoing “threat to students and employees”; and disclose in a public crime log “any crime that occurred on campus . . . or within the patrol jurisdiction of the campus police or the campus security department and is reported to the campus police or security department.” You may contact the department by calling (704) 216-6164 for a hard copy.

The department consists of professional police and security officers and other team members dedicated to providing first-class service to the community. Officers patrol the campus on foot, by bicycle, and in vehicles. Sworn Officers have the authority of commissioned police officers with full powers of arrest under N.C.G.S. 74 G under the authority of the Attorney Generals Office and are required to complete a rigorous basic police officer training program. In addition, specialized advanced training continues throughout their careers. Livingstone Campus Police Department maintains a close working relationship with local law enforcement agencies. Local police agencies may provide information toLivingstone Campus Police Department on matters of criminal activity at off- campus sites. Crime statistics are compiled by coordination with these local police agencies.

For any fire, police or medical emergency, call Livingstone Campus Police Department immediately from any campus phone or press the button on any blue light emergency phone. We encourage you to report any crime, regardless of how insignificant it may seem.

Be prepared to respond to the communications officer’s questions or instructions In response to your call, the officer will dispatch Livingstone Campus Police Department personnel and the appropriate local police, fire and medical teams to your location.
Campus Access
If you are a visitor at Livingstone College please stop at the security booth to obtain a visitors pass. You must come in through the front entrance. Vehicular access to campus is carefully controlled by uniformed officers of Livingstone Campus Police Department.

College facilities are open only to members of the College community and escorted or authorized visitors. Academic and administrative buildings are locked after normal working hours.
Crime Prevention
Livingstone Campus Police Department offers a comprehensive crime prevention program
as well as self defense classes to female faculty; staff and students
Informal meetings with the Campus Safety Committee can also be scheduled for groups with security concerns or interests.
Livingstone College Alcohol and Drug Policy
Students at Livingstone College are expected to be acquainted with and abide by state laws and College regulations regarding alcohol and drugs and to be aware of the social, physiological, and psychological consequences of excessive drinking in order to make responsible and informed decisions about the serving and consumption of alcohol. The College provides regular educational programs on alcohol and drug abuse as well as counseling services. The College alcoholic beverage policy is designed to be consistent with the laws of the State of North Carolina, which, in general, prohibit the possession, consumption and serving of alcoholic beverages by and to persons under 21 years of age.
Sexual Assault
Livingstone College is committed to creating and maintaining a community in which students, faculty, and staff can work and study in an atmosphere free from all forms of harassment, exploitation or intimidation.

If you are the victim of a sexual offense, you have the right to:
Report the incident to Public Safety
at (704) 216-6164
Report the incident to the appropriate police agency and pursue criminal charges
Seek medical treatment as soon as possible, including the collection and preservation of evidence that is crucial to pursuing criminal prosecution.
Access the support services provided by the College.

If you need medical transport, call Public Safety at (704) 216-6164 for transport.

It will not result in an investigation unless you disclose the particulars of the assault. Regardless, seek medical treatment immediately and get counseling.

By calling (704) 216-6164, Public Safety will respond to assist you in receiving medical treatment and/or contacting off-campus authorities.
