PHYSIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT
The
Physiotherapy Department of Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kebbi was set up in
July 2001. It is one of the departments under the Directorate of Clinical
Services. It has since inception had Mr Amos Tunde Ogunbunmi as head. The department,
once a single unit entity now has five (5) units as follows:
i. Paediatric
ii. O&G
iii.Medicine
iv.Surgery
v.ICU
The
department presently provides physiotherapeutic services to both out and in
patients from the departments of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology,
Paediatrics, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dental Surgery and the Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) of the Centre.
The
Physiotherapy Clinic is open daily for outpatient consultation and treatment
Mondays to Fridays from 8:00am to 4:00pm. There is also the daily call duty,
run from 4:00pm to 8:00pm weekdays. Weekend calls are run on Saturdays and
Sundays from 8:00am to 7:00am the next day.
The
department also conducts weekly ward rounds in conjunction with the Orthopaedic
team on Wednesdays and Fridays. It holds departmental presentation on the
second Tuesday of every month.
The
department is focused on training and retraining of staff to keep them up to
date on current trends and technologies. It currently records a high turnover
of patients.
