Technology and Innovation Teacher (Grades 4–8)
Substitute Teacher
Per-Diem Substitute Nurse
The Position
Chapin School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic professional to fill a full-time position as the Technology and Innovation Teacher for fourth through eighth grade. This position reports to the Director of Technology as well as the Lower and Middle School Director.
Responsibilities:
· Teach technology classes using inquiry-based and project-based approaches that encourage creativity, problem solving, and independence.
· Develop and lead a comprehensive robotics program that emphasizes problem-solving, teamwork, and iterative design.
· Design and deliver lessons in coding and programming using platforms appropriate for middle school learners such as Scratch, Python, and block-based tools.
· Develop and implement a curriculum that integrates technology across subject areas. Collaborate with faculty to plan and co-teach lessons when appropriate, and support colleagues in using technology effectively in their classrooms.
· Incorporate the engineering design process into maker-centered learning experiences, including 3D printing, design software, hand tools, and other fabrication tools, to support hands-on learning. Partner with teachers to support their curriculum through projects that deepen student understanding.
· Assume additional responsibilities within the technology department, including device setup and maintenance, troubleshooting, and general user support.
· Establish a classroom environment rooted in mutual respect, where students are encouraged to create, experiment, reflect, and grow.
· Work closely with colleagues within the department and contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
· Fulfill community responsibilities as needed, such as lunch and recess duty.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
· A minimum of three years of teaching experience, with experience in middle grades preferred. Experience in an independent school setting is a plus.
· Proficiency with Windows and Apple iOS systems, along with common cloud-based applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Experience with educational platforms and tools, including learning apps and classroom technologies, is expected. Familiarity with Blackbaud’s Educational Management System is helpful but not required.
