Fırat University Achieves Top Rankings in Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary ...
Fırat University has demonstrated exceptional success in the recently announced 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR), ranking in the 201–250 band globally and securing 11th place overall in Türkiye, while standing 7th among public universities in the country.

The ISR, conducted for the first time this year by THE in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows, evaluates universities’ contributions to interdisciplinary science. The ranking system highlights institutions that excel in fostering innovation across disciplines. A total of 749 universities from 92 countries participated, with Fırat University demonstrating its commitment to interdisciplinary research and global academic excellence.

The ISR methodology assesses universities through 11 calibrated indicators distributed across three categories: Inputs (such as funding), Processes (including facilities and administrative support), and Outputs (like publications, research quality, and reputation). Notably, Fırat University ranked 6th in Türkiye in the “Outputs” category, reflecting the tangible impact of its interdisciplinary research efforts.


Speaking about this achievement, Fırat University Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş stated:

“We are proud of our position in the 2025 THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, one of the most prestigious global university rankings. Being placed in the 201–250 band globally and ranking 7th among public universities in Türkiye is a testament to our significant contributions to interdisciplinary scientific research. Particularly, securing 6th place in the ‘Outputs’ category in Türkiye shows the impactful contributions we make to the global scientific community.
This success reflects the innovative, solution-driven, and collaborative approaches embraced by our academic staff. Fırat University Academics on the List of World's Most Influential Scientists...
A total of 46 scientists from Fırat University were included in the “World’s Most Influential Scientists” list, prepared by Stanford University, in the “last year” category, while 41 were recognized in the “career-long” category.   In recognition of this achievement, Fırat University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş, met with the academics featured on both lists and presented them with certificates of appreciation. The ceremony was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş, Vice Rector Mehmet Yılmaz, and the honored academics. In his speech, Rector Göktaş highlighted the significance of the academics’ accomplishments, saying, “Your contributions have been pivotal in our designation as a Research University. We consistently emphasize this across all platforms. Your publications, citations, and projects are all evaluated, and you are the primary contributors. Our role as the university administration is simply to ensure that your successes are accurately reflected.” He congratulated the academics, stating, “I sincerely thank each of you for bringing us this pride, and we hope to see even greater success in the future.” Following the speech, certificates of appreciation were presented by Rector Göktaş to the distinguished academics from Fırat University.

Fırat University Sets Record at ISIF 2024...
Fırat University achieved a remarkable success at the Istanbul International Inventions Fair (ISIF 2024), securing a total of 7 medals: 1 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze. Organized by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT) since 2016, ISIF is Turkey’s only international inventions fair and was held this year in Adana as part of TEKNOFEST. With this accomplishment, Fırat University reached its highest medal count in the history of its participation at ISIF. Rector’s Statement Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ expressed his pride, stating, “Our university continues to advance in scientific research and innovation, delivering impactful projects on both national and international levels. The medals won at ISIF 2024 are a testament to Fırat University’s strong academic foundation and the outstanding talents of our students and faculty. These inventions bring great pride to our institution and to the scientific community. I wholeheartedly congratulate all the inventors who earned these medals. Our contributions to science and technology will only grow stronger in the years to come.”

The 2024-2025 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held in Ankara, attended by universities from across Turkey. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ, along with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İrfan KAYGUSUZ, faculty members, and students, participated in the ceremony, which took place at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center. The event was honored by the presence of President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN. At the ceremony, representatives from higher education institutions gathered to mark a strong start to the new academic year.

In his speech, President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN highlighted the remarkable transformation of higher education in Turkiye. He noted that the number of universities has increased from 76 in 2002 to 208 today, with over 7 million students currently enrolled. The budget allocated for higher education has also risen to 341 billion Turkish lira. President ERDOĞAN emphasized the vital role of academia not only in scientific development but also in the social and cultural progress of the nation, stating, "Academia is the lifeblood of both positive and social sciences, which are crucial for a country's needs."

Message from YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol ÖZVAR

Prof. Dr. Erol ÖZVAR, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), emphasized the importance of enhancing the research and development capacity of universities. He stated that this will elevate Turkey to a competitive global level in science and technology. Prof. Dr. ÖZVAR also pointed out that Turkey has now ranked 17th globally in scientific publications, a success that must be further advanced.

Fırat University’s Faculty of Communication won third place in the "Internet News" category at the 10th annual "TRT Future Communicators Competition," organized by Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). Journalism student Halil İbrahim Ergül and Radio, Television, and Cinema student Muhammed Yadin Yılmaz received the award for their news piece titled "An Italian Village in Diyarbakır: Our Cultures Were Different, but We Were the Same."
