Mission
The Viral Vector Core (VVC) is committed to promoting the safe and effective use of viral vectors at the NIEHS Laboratories. Our team offers comprehensive services, including expert consultation, customized viral vector production, and thorough validation. In addition to developing tailored viral solutions, we import viral products based on the unique needs of principal investigators (PIs) and provide hands-on support in troubleshooting and optimization. Our mission is to deliver reliable viral vectors and expert guidance, empowering researchers to achieve impactful and innovative research.
Service to the Institutes
The core offers several types of vectors for gene delivery and use in research including: Adeno-associated virus (AAV), Adenovirus (Ad5), Coronaviruses (MHV, NL63, hCoV-299E, hCoV-OC43), Cytomegalovirus (CMV, HHV-5), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV, HHV-4), Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), Influenza A, Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus (LCMV), Lentivirus/Retrovirus (including HIV and IDLV), Rabies delta-G (SADB19 and CVS-N2c), Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Semliki Forest Virus (SFV), Sindbis virus, Varicella zoster virus (VZV, HHV-3), Vesicular stomatitis virus (pseudotyped with SARS-CoV/CoV2-spikes), and Zika virus.
Each vector has different strengths and weaknesses. We encourage users to consult the core staff about the most appropriate choice for their experiments. The Core provides:
Vector Production and Customization
Validation and Quality Assurance
Transduction Assays for Screening Reagents/Genes
Resource Management (plasmids, cell lines, and viruses)
Innovation and Collaboration
Immortalizing Primary Cell Lines
Training
NIEHS Shared and Core Facilities are available to NIH researchers. Information for staff on utilizing these services may be found on the NIEHS Junction or by contacting the staff below.
