National Service Scheme
National Service Scheme (N.S.S)
National Service Scheme (N.S.S) under the University of Calicut was introduced in the college during the academic year
1972-1973
. With the formation of the National Service Scheme Technical cell under the Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Kerala, N.S.S unit of the college was put under the Technical Cell form the academic year
1988-1989
onwards. A second unit was also started during this period. With the formation of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (APJAKTU) NSS Cell, from 2019 onwards, NSS Units 128 & 198 of the college as affiliated under APJAKTU NSS Cell.
The motto of National Service Scheme is
NOT ME BUT YOU
The aim of the N.S.S is “To develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service”. The overall objective of the N.S.S is educational. Service to the community is the activity through which this objective is sought to be attained. The more specific objectives of the National Service Scheme are to arouse the student's social conscience and to provide him with the opportunity. Participation in the N.S.S is voluntary. APJAKTU will award a certificate to the volunteer for the participation in N.S.S provided if he/she completes 240 hrs of regular N.S.S work and attends a special camp with minimum of seven days duration.
NSS Units 128 and 198 of NSS College of Engineering (NSSCE) actively engage in various social welfare activities. NSS Units are further divided into five subunits namely Santhwanam, Pratheeksha, Urja, Unarv, and Samrudhi, each dedicated to specific areas of social service. These subunits work towards different aspects of community welfare and development.
These include natural resource protection camps, tree planting drives, large scale seed dispersal programs, camps and activities inside conserved forests, blood donation drives, stem cell donation camps, health awareness campaigns, environmental initiatives, palliative care programs, energy conservation programs, carbon neutral surveys and awareness programs, road safety awareness programs etc. The units also conduct skill development workshops and contribute to disaster relief efforts. Their efforts aim to create a positive impact on society while instilling leadership and empathy in volunteers.
