> Excelsia supported places (ESP)
An Excelsia supported place (ESP) is a place provided at Excelsia University College to eligible domestic applicants to study selected courses where Excelsia pays part of your fees.
This is a subsidy to reduce the cost of your course. It means that you do not pay the full course fees. It is not a loan, and you don’t have to pay it back. However, this subsidy does not cover the entire cost of your course.
The remaining cost is called the student contribution amount. You are responsible for paying the student contribution amount either upfront to Excelsia University College by the census date, or by applying for FEE-HELP. For more information about applying for FEE-HELP, see the
Study Assist website
.
For example, Lily wants to study a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to 5) to become an early childhood pre-primary teacher. If she applies for and receives an ESP, her annual student contribution amount for her first-year tuition fee will be $4,627.
If she is not offered an ESP or chooses a degree at Excelsia which is not covered under ESP, her first-year tuition fee will be the set tuition fee for that degree, and the details can be found under
Course Fees
on the Fees and Scholarship page.
Accessing ESP can make a significant difference to the cost of your study.

Eligibility for ESP
Excelsia will assess your eligibility for ESP based on your citizenship, residency and the course requirements.
Citizenship and residency requirements
To be eligible for an ESP, your citizenship, visa status and where you plan to live while you study are all considered.
To be eligible for an ESP you must be one of the following:
an Australian citizen who will study at least one unit of your course while living in Australia
a New Zealand citizen who will study the entire course while living in Australia
an Australian permanent visa holder who will study the entire course while living in Australia
an eligible former permanent humanitarian visa holder who will study the entire course while living in Australia, or
a Pacific engagement visa (PEV) holder who will study the entire course while living in Australia.
Course requirements
Meeting the ESP eligibility requirements does not guarantee that you will be offered an ESP. Offers are based on merit after students are assessed as meeting the course entry requirements.
Additional requirements
In addition to your citizenship, residency and course requirements, you also need to:
have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to the first census date of your course.
What happens if you don’t get an ESP?
If you are not offered an ESP in your selected course, you will be enrolled in a full fee-paying place. This means there is no subsidy to cover part of the fees and you will pay the full amount for your fees.
If you enrol in a full fee-paying place, you may be eligible for a FEE-HELP to avoid making an upfront payment. Further information on eligibility for a FEE-HELP loan is available at at the
Study Assist website
.
What if you want to change courses
Your ESP is not transferable to another course or to another higher education provider.
If you would like to change courses, you will need to withdraw from your current course prior to commencement, and then apply for your new course. For transferring to another course offered by Excelsia, this can be done using the
Request for Course Transfer Form
.
It is important to follow the correct process for withdrawing from your current course. If you do not withdraw properly or withdraw after the census date, you will have to pay the student contribution amount.
When you apply for the new course, it is important you check if there are ESPs available for the course.
If you need help to understand how to withdraw from your current course and apply for your new course, contact our Student Services.
How long can you study on ESP?
An ESP provides students 4 years of full-time subsidised study.

What our alumnus say
Excelsia Alumnus: Tracey Deal
School of Education
‘40 years is a wonderful achievement and it is inspiring to see how much Excelsia has grown over the years. In successfully integrating faith with a supportive learning environment, Excelsia is pushing boundaries and forging the paths for the next generation. Excelsia has made a positive impact on thousands of graduates, including myself, in helping to achieve goals and I look forward to seeing where Excelsia takes education in the future.’
Excelsia Alumnus: Sophya Spann
Master of Teaching (Primary)
‘I chose to study at Excelsia because I wanted a superior qualification and I could do this by incorporating my Christian beliefs and values! Excelsia gave me the opportunity to explore my Christian faith and beliefs within teaching. The Christian worldview that Excelsia adopts and being able to gain an understanding of how I as a teacher can continuously incorporate my faith in teaching and learning, was invaluable.’
Excelsia Alumnus: Nigel Vaux
Master of Teaching (Primary)
‘After many years after working for a church and another Christian organisation, I came to the realisation I’d like to become a school chaplain. As I looked around I saw that Excelsia offered the best degree to achieve my goals and equip me for teaching primary students.’
Excelsia Alumnus: Sonu Khadka
Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth – 5)
‘Choosing to study at Excelsia was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The learning environment has been fantastic, the academic staff have been very supportive and continue to model to me how to become a great teacher. I have also made friends from a diverse cultural background and I can see a great career ahead of me.’
Excelsia Alumnus: Lisa Champion
Master of Counselling
‘Studying online created a fantastic opportunity for me to study, work part-time and still be able to enjoy all aspects of family life. The workshops provided wonderful opportunities to meet other students, which resulted in ongoing collaboration and discussion through forums and personal communication. I chose to study at Excelsia because I wanted a superior qualification and I could do this by incorporating my Christian beliefs and values.’
Excelsia Alumnus: Yannick Lawry
Master of Counselling
‘I already knew Excelsia’s values were Christian, but Excelsia accepts that most people have a secular world view and doesn’t push its Christian world view, while at the same time it’s not ashamed of it. That’s why I thought I’d study at Excelsia.’
