GUS 101 (Intro to Chapman)
GUS 101 (Intro to Chapman) introduces Undeclared/Exploratory students to various academic
areas to help them eventually select a major.
GUS 101 is a
1-credit course
that is required for all first-year students who enter Chapman Undeclared. It is one
of the components of our
Exploratory Majors program
.
First-year students will take GUS 101 during their first semester at Chapman.
Those entering Chapman in the fall will be pre-registered into GUS 101.
GUS 101 is a 1-credit course (50 minutes of class time per week).
All students take GUS 101 for a letter grade.
GUS 101 learning goals
One of the exciting parts about being Undeclared is you are encouraged to learn about
various academic areas at Chapman. GUS 101 will help you learn about Chapman's departments
and schools/colleges, which collectively support you on your academic journey.
To facilitate this process, the class is collectively taught by our academic advising
team. At Chapman, every school/college has dedicated advisors. In the classroom, these
advisors will be able to provide insight on the various opportunities in their school/college
(majors, classes, internships, studying abroad, etc.).
By the end of the course, we expect all students to:
Be familiar with the various academic areas and opportunities at Chapman.
Have a good idea of their own academic interests and goals, and which major(s) might
align with those.
Know which departments and staff can support them as they continue exploring their
academic options as Chapman.
