Healing in Every Language
At Driscoll, we know clear communication is an important part of quality medical care. Our Interpretation and Translation Services Department makes communication possible between the healthcare team and LEP (Limited English Proficiency) or hearing-impaired patients and families.
Understanding every aspect of medical care isn’t a luxury—it’s a right. More than 40 percent of our patients and their families speak Spanish as their sole primary language. We’re ready to provide helpful interpretation services for every phase of your visit, including:
Diagnosis
Tests
Procedures
Treatment options
Possible risks
Outcomes
Requirements following discharge
For languages other than Spanish, after hours and holidays, hospital staff is instructed to contact one of the following:
The Language Line
An over-the-phone interpreting agency
A remote interpreter via video conferencing
Who are the staff interpreters?
Driscoll has several Spanish-speaking interpreters of diverse backgrounds on staff. These interpreters are familiar with medical terminology in both Spanish and English. Each team member is an experienced professional, selected to provide quality interpretation services.
American Sign Language (ASL)
Driscoll also recognizes the need for sign language. We work directly with the Deaf Center in Corpus Christi. ASL interpreters are available 24 hours a day (we recommend advance notice of 24 hours). Someone from your healthcare team can assist you with any ASL service needs.
