To facilitate students’ learning and development, the Faculty of Social Sciences places dual emphasis on formal curriculum and out-of-classroom learning, including internships, study tours and other extra-curricular activities.
Our programmes develop students’ generic competence as well as specialist knowledge and skills required for further study or career development. We are offering one bachelor's degree programme and one higher diploma programme in social work and two associate degree programmes in social science and applied psychology. All major courses are fully or partially taught in small classes.
In recent years, many social work graduates chose to practice their profession after graduation rather than pursue further studies immediately. This is because, first, there were abundant job opportunities for them, and, second, many of them preferred to acquire some work experience before continuing their studies. That is why we have converted the associate degree programme in social work to a higher diploma programme. Graduates of other associate degree programmes tended to pursue further study. Out of those who chose further study, half or more of them articulated to government-funded universities.
