From swimming and tennis to lacrosse, dance and fitness training – sport plays a key role in everyday school life. Outstanding indoor and outdoor sport facilities and opportunities led by expert teachers and coaches sports facilities Swimming pool Our modern 25m, six-lane pool is at the heart of sport at St Mary’s. It provides the perfect setting for lessons, training and fixtures helping pupils build technique, stamina, confidence in the water and a lifelong love of swimming. From recreational swimming to training ahead of representing the school, county or even country in galas, the pool is a space where girls feel both supported and challenged. Sports FAcilities Indoor sport The state-of-the-art sports hall offers a versatile space for activities ranging from indoor netball and badminton to indoor cricket and climbing. Fully equipped and adaptable, with its own climbing wall and cricket nets, the Sports Hall ensures sport remains accessible year-round, regardless of the weather. This space is also for pupils to develop teamwork, skills and resilience. Whether learning something new or perfecting their game, each pupil benefits from expert support and the camaraderie that comes with training alongside friends and teammates. sports facilities Fitness gym suite Our modern fitness suite – refitted with new equipment in 2025 – provides a welcoming space for strength, conditioning and personal training. With expert guidance, pupils stay active and boost wellbeing at their own pace. Beyond fitness, these facilities help build confidence, set personal goals and celebrate progress. With the right balance of support and challenge, they develop healthy habits that last well beyond school. Tennis and netball courts With twenty tennis courts and eight netball courts, pupils enjoy outstanding facilities for training and competition at every level, supported by expert coaching from our Tennis Academy. Many pupils represent the school, county and country in sporting fixtures, while others simply love the social side of playing with friends. Whatever their level, every pupil is encouraged to join in, develop skills and experience the joy of sport. SPORTS FACILITIES Astroturf and grass pitches Our full-sized astro-turf pitch and extensive grass fields provide the perfect stage for lacrosse, hockey, football and athletics. These spaces located right in the centre of the school campus, host both everyday practices and high-level competitive fixtures. These pitches give pupils the opportunity to train, develop their skills and represent their team across a wide range of sports, all within our own grounds. Tennis Academy Our flourishing and popular Tennis Academy offers expert coaching for all levels year round. With outstanding courts and competitive opportunities, girls develop confidence, skill and a lifelong love of the game. Beyond our campus Specialist nearby venues such as Beversbrook, Avebury Cricket Club and West Wiltshire Equestrian Centre extend sporting opportunities, enabling pupils to hone skills, broaden their experiences and enjoy an enriched sporting journey. Equestrian With our own annual show jumping competition and school competitive team, riding is hugely popular at St Mary’s as a co-curriculum activity. We offer regular school training with elite trainers at local venues and pupils compete locally and nationally.
