Boarding in Sixth Form
Where lifelong friendships are made, opportunities are explored
Boarding in the Sixth Form offers you a valuable and engaging two years of preparation before beginning the next phase of your life journey. Our supportive and sociable Houses are at the centre of school life and of the well being of our day and boarding Sixth Formers. In lower Sixth every pupil at King Edwards joins one of six of our supportive and sociable Houses. Each with its own personality, our Houses are so much more than just a place to be. At the heart of school life, they provide a home from home where lifelong friendships are made, opportunities are explored and where each and every child is seen and feels valued for who they are.
A home away from home. A home for life.
Independence and leadership opportunities
In Lower Sixth, you’ll be the senior students within in our house community. Boarding in the Sixth Form helps you to develop an increasing sense of independence, offering a wealth of opportunities to play a leadership role in your house, working with our house parents and their experienced teams to design and deliver a full range of house activities and trips. You’ll be able to gain valuable experience by helping to shape initiatives and support the younger pupils in your house along with the opportunity to lead and feature in our wide-ranging and keenly contested inter-house activities and competitions.
Through these experiences and more, our Sixth Formers develop all important ‘human’ skills focussed on developing positive relationships, collaboration, excellent presentation skills, strong communication and the leadership qualities so important in travelling through life with skill, confidence, kindness and happiness.
A perfect stepping stone to life ahead
In Upper Sixth you’ll transition to your dedicated Jubilee House, designed as the perfect stepping stone to the independent experiences you’ll enjoy after leaving King Edward’s. The Jubilee House leadership team will support your academic progress but also creates a rich environment where you will grow and flourish, with your personal development, wellbeing and participation in a range of social opportunities being greatly prioritised. Our Upper Sixth tutor team is based in Jubilee in the evenings to provide further subject specialism and university preparation support.
A bright and contemporary space opened in 2022, Jubilee House is built around shared workspaces, with en-suite boarding spaces as well as flexi-boarding provision to suit the needs of day students. We have spaces for our senior students to develop life skills, including a teaching kitchen, several laundries, and a presentation area in addition to social spaces, a games area and a garden, during an unforgettable final year at King Edward’s.
A richly diverse boarding life
Life for boarders at King Edward’s is richly diverse with each pupil enjoying a wealth of social and learning opportunities. Our lively community of full-time boarders enjoys a full and exciting activities programme on offer each evening and weekend. Full-time boarders live at School seven days a week throughout the term, apart from exeat weekends. Each term has two exeat weekends when boarders leave for home at 16:00 on Friday and return the following Sunday evening, allowing time to be spent with parents and guardians during term time.
Weekend activities
Throughout the weekend, our full-time boarders have a broad range of fun and educational activities to choose from, both arranged by house and larger trips for all pupils, including Go Karting, ice skating, trips to local attractions, attending local or national sporting events, day trips to London and house-based entertainment with BBQs, pizza or film nights. Inter-house activities and competitions are keenly contested. We also offer an extensive trips programme, with a range of opportunities to travel with the school locally, in the UK and internationally on academic and co-curricular adventures.
Weekly boarding
Weekly boarding offers the best of both worlds and is popular with families from London, as well as those who are just a little too far for a daily commute or for those pupils who want to enjoy a fully immersive boarding experience during the week. This experience allows the flexibility for pupils to return home on Friday afternoon, or on Saturday after school fixtures or activities, and return on Sunday evening or Monday morning. Weekly boarders are fully involved in house and co-curricular activities during the week and can also enjoy a relaxed weekend with their families.
Flexi-boarding and occasional boarding
Our flexi-boarding and occasional boarding opportunities allows for a more flexible pattern, typically where our families arrange a regular pattern of week-night boarding to fit with busy family schedules or to enjoy the opportunity for pupils to stay with us should parents need to travel for business or indeed pleasure during term time. Our house teams are ready and able to accommodate different requirements and ensure that pupils are at home in our houses, whether they live in them for one or seven nights a week
Healthcare
The Medical Centre is an important part of the comprehensive approach to pastoral care for all pupils and staff at King Edward’s.
The Medical Centre is located in a peaceful corner of the School grounds. It is staffed by qualified nurses twenty-four hours, seven days a week who are available around the clock for emergency call-outs. The staff work closely with Matrons and parents, ensuring pupils take any prescribed medicines, and are a first point of contact if a pupil is unwell. The Medical Centre staff provide for day to day medical needs, GP doctor appointments, appointments for external specialists as needed, all inoculations are kept up to date, specialised clinics for asthma, vaccinations, weight management, advice on routine and travel vaccinations, and specialist counselling help.
Exciting, delicious and well-balanced food – nurturing healthy bodies and healthy minds
We understand the importance of supporting brains and nourishing bodies, and we actively encourage a healthy lifestyle across our community. We take great pride in offering creative, fresh, delicious and well-balanced food, proving sustained energy for students involved in a busy school day and catering for all individual nutritional needs.
Ensuring our community comes together and connects, our staff and students can eat together in our Dining Hall. A relaxed time to prepare for a busy day ahead, take a break between activities or unwind at the end of a busy day of learning and achieving.
Our vibrant coffee shop, Piccadilly is situated in the heart of our school it is an important social hub for pupils, staff, parents and visitors. It provides a modern space to meet, relax and share a moment. Additionally, our eight Houses all have their own kitchens where pupils can make themselves snacks, hot drinks, and where a bowl of fruit and a conversation over a kitchen table is always on offer.
Healthy bodies. Healthy minds. Healthy, happy humans.

During the Easter break, seven Lower Sixth pupils undertook a Duke of Edinburgh Gold expedition in the Peak District to train for wild country navigation, camp craft and team building. This follows other recent expeditions including a silver qualifying expedition in the South Downs.
DofE is a life changing experience that helps our young people build a strong foundation for their future through personal challenge, teamwork, leadership and problem solving.
With our School values rooted in kindness and compassion, community impact and developing a sense of social responsibility matters. DofE provides an opportunity to develop these all important personal qualities.
Congratulations to all these pupils on their tremendous endeavours and a huge thank you to our brilliant staff for their dedication and incredible support.

🚨🎶 New Music Alert!
We’re incredibly proud of Upper Sixth pupil Andrew, whose latest original track, Sunday Morning is now live on Spotify. His musical talent spans multiple instruments and genres - from classical performance to contemporary production - and this release is hopefully the start of many more to come.
At King Edward’s Witley, we give young musicians the skills, support and opportunities to grow. Andrew has embraced every experience from ensemble work to instrumental lessons, and it’s been a joy to support his musical journey.

🇬🇧 Commonwealth Day 2026 was celebrated on Monday, 9 March, with the theme “Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth”. The day highlighted the 56 member countries’ collaboration and our collective action to foster economic growth, education, and resilience through empowering citizens and creating equitable opportunities.
With our Royal Family in attendance at the Westminster Abbey service, a small number of our pupils were invited to represent King Edward’s in a tremendous day of service and celebration.
Our strong City of London links date back to our very beginnings in 1553, and provide our pupils with exceptional opportunities to connect with our heritage and understand the importance of service and global citizenship. Our thanks to Mr Simon Lightman for supporting our pupils in their participation in such a significant national event.

🎼 3rd Form pupils, Stella and Eve recently took to the iconic Wembley Arena stage to perform as part of the Voice In A Million (VIAM) stage choir. Known as “The World’s Most Spectacular School Concert”, it is an annual event staged to raise awareness of children in care and encourage people to think about fostering or adoption.
Our songbirds not only passed two rounds of auditions against strong candidates to win places in the VIAM stage choir, they both also secured solo parts in several songs. Reflecting on their experiences:
“I’m really grateful to be in VIAM this year. I’ve loved every second of it, it’s an amazing atmosphere and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life”, said Eve.
“This is my fourth year in the stage choir and my first in the senior backing vocalist group where I get to focus on the soprano harmonies which I love”, said Stella.
You can find more information about VIAM on the website https://voiceinamillion.com where there’s also a link to donate to Adoption UK.

Recently a number of our Lower Sixth pupils attended an inspiring London Careers Festival event with experts in their fields, Professor Martin Elliott and Professor Robin May.
Professor Elliott specialises in open heart surgery for babies at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Our pupils learnt about his career journey towards realising his specialisation as well as the various entry opportunities into the medical profession and the importance maths plays in planning surgery.
Professor May is a specialist in infectious diseases. He also shared an incredible and diverse career journey and how he now uses his knowledge and experience in human infectious diseases to advise the government as the Chief Scientific Adviser for the FSA.
With insightful advice from both experts, our pupils learnt that a career, especially in science, is not a destination but a journey of discovery to be explored and enjoyed.
