Sports Program
Sport at the College is mixed and varied in that it aims to cater to the participation of the majority but also allows the elite to shine and provide a pathway for those students.
Sport is an integrated program where students participate in a variety of sports, within their base classes, conducted by outside staff as well as trained teachers.
Sports offered in this program are:
Water Polo
Aqua Fitness
Aqua Games
Tennis
Gymnastics
Basketball
Volleyball
Yoga/Pilates
Fitness
Netball
Touch Football
Golf
Strike and Throw Skills
Kicking Skills
The College runs three major carnivals: Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. These bring out the best in House Spirit from the four participating Houses. All are based around the notion of every student participating at their level yet, at the same time, providing a pathway to Lismore Diocesan and NSW Combined Catholic Colleges selection for the more talented and elite athletes.
The College Swimming Carnival is held early in Term One at the College pool. It culminates in a twilight carnival so that parents and families can share the spirit of the event.
The Cross Country utilises the College grounds as well as a nearby property to provide a challenging test for students and is usually held late in Term One.
The Athletics Carnival is held during Term 2 at the College and again is based around mass participation yet, at the same time, allowing the elite to progress through to the next levels of competition.
Elite Sports Program
At Woodlawn, we offer an Elite Sports Program for Year 9s, aiming to provide students with the opportunity to work on excelling in their chosen sport whilst maintaining academic participation.
This program typically occurs during Junior Sport, which is a 2-hour period of sport that occurs on Wednesday every fortnight.
This program features elements such as strength and conditioning training, guest speakers, nutrition, recovery, sport psychology, fitness testing, personalised training programs, and many more. These features aim to help increase participants' athleticism in their chosen sport.
We have amazing facilities here at Woodlawn and would make use of those, in addition to a partnership with the University. Also, there is the potential to work with an external provider ACE who cater for strength and conditioning, sports psychology and sports nutrition for student-athletes.
Our Elite Sports Program aims to not only improve our students' physical abilities but also to cultivate leadership skills and a sense of community within the school. We believe that this program will provide our students with the tools they need to excel in their sports and beyond.
